The second semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 will see India take on England on Thursday, March 5, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

This will be the third consecutive edition in which the two teams face each other in a T20 World Cup semi-final. Their most recent meeting at this stage came in 2024, when India secured a 68-run victory. Two years earlier, in the 2022 edition, England defeated India by 10 wickets in the semi-final.

Interestingly, both sides are making their sixth appearance in a T20 World Cup semi-final. India have won three of their previous five matches at this stage, while England also hold three wins from five semi-finals. Both teams have lifted the trophy twice, setting up a highly anticipated contest.

Here are three records that could be broken during the India vs England clash.

1. Most Final Appearances in T20 World Cup History

Both India and England have the opportunity to set a new record for the most appearances in T20 World Cup finals.

Currently, four teams share the record with three final appearances each:

  • India – 2007, 2014, 2024
  • England – 2010, 2016, 2022
  • Pakistan – 2007, 2009, 2022
  • Sri Lanka – 2009, 2012, 2014

The winner of this semi-final will move to a fourth final, becoming the first team in tournament history to achieve that milestone.

2. Highest Individual Score by an Indian Batter in T20 World Cup Knockouts

Virat Kohli currently holds the record for the highest individual score by an Indian batter in a knockout match at the T20 World Cup.

In the 2016 semi-final against the West Indies at the Wankhede Stadium, Kohli scored an unbeaten 89 from 47 balls. His innings included 11 fours and a six, finishing at a strike rate of 189.36 and helping India reach a total above 190.

With India’s strong batting lineup featuring players such as Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, and captain Suryakumar Yadav, that record could potentially be surpassed in the upcoming semi-final.

3. India’s Highest Team Total in a T20 World Cup Semi-Final

India’s highest total in a T20 World Cup semi-final also came during the 2016 clash with the West Indies at the Wankhede Stadium.

Batting first, India posted 192/2. Despite the strong score, the West Indies successfully chased the target in 19.4 overs with seven wickets remaining.

As India return to the same venue for another semi-final against England a decade later, they have the chance to exceed that total and set a new record.

The Wankhede Stadium has traditionally been known for offering batting-friendly conditions, which could once again produce a high-scoring contest.
