Jasprit Bumrah Breaks Arshdeep Singh’s Record In India’s T20 World Cup Final Triumph

Jasprit Bumrah delivered a match-winning performance as India secured a dominant victory over New Zealand in the final of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Defending a total of 256 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the Indian fast bowler returned outstanding figures of 4/15 from his four overs.

Alongside helping India lift the T20 World Cup trophy, Bumrah also set a significant national record during the title clash.

Bumrah Becomes India’s Leading Wicket-Taker In T20 World Cups

Bumrah claimed four wickets while conceding just 15 runs in the final against New Zealand on Sunday, March 8. His spell began with the key dismissal of Rachin Ravindra during the powerplay. Later in the innings, he removed Jimmy Neesham, Matt Henry and Mitchell Santner.

The pacer also dismissed Neesham and Henry off consecutive deliveries as India bowled New Zealand out for 159 in 19 overs.

During the course of the match, the 32-year-old overtook fellow fast bowler Arshdeep Singh to become India’s highest wicket-taker in T20 World Cup history. Bumrah made his T20 World Cup debut in 2016 but missed the 2022 edition in Australia due to injury.

Both Bumrah and Arshdeep had entered the final against New Zealand with 36 wickets each. While Arshdeep went wicketless in the title match, Bumrah extended his tally to 40 wickets.

Batting first, India posted 255/5 in their 20 overs. The opening pair of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma set the tone with aggressive half-centuries during a rapid 98-run partnership that came in just seven overs.

Samson led the scoring with a powerful 89 from 46 balls. Ishan Kishan also struck a quick half-century, while Shivam Dube added valuable runs in the closing overs.

In reply, Bumrah spearheaded India’s bowling attack with figures of 4/15. Axar Patel also played a crucial role by taking three wickets, as New Zealand were dismissed for 159. The result handed India a convincing 96-run victory.

India’s triumph in the 2026 T20 World Cup brought several historic achievements.
