Eshan Malinga has climbed to the top of the IPL 2026 Purple Cap standings, while Sunrisers Hyderabad’s batting display against Mumbai Indians reshaped the Orange Cap leaderboard.
Sunrisers Hyderabad secured a six-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians on Wednesday night, with their batters dominating proceedings. The result led to notable shifts in the run charts, along with a new leader among the wicket-takers.
Orange Cap
Before the match, Rajasthan Royals’ Vaibhav Sooryavanshi held the Orange Cap after becoming the first batter this season to reach 400 runs. However, by the end of the game, two SRH players had overtaken him.
Abhishek Sharma, who struck 45 off 24 balls, and Heinrich Klaasen, who finished unbeaten on 65 from 30 deliveries, now occupy the top two positions. Abhishek leads the standings with 425 runs, while Klaasen follows closely with 414.
Sooryavanshi has slipped to third with 400 runs. Delhi Capitals’ KL Rahul and Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Virat Kohli are next, with both among the few players to have crossed the 350-run mark this season, alongside several others who have gone past 300.
Purple Cap
Eshan Malinga has emerged as one of the standout performers this season, and his latest outing further strengthened his position. He returned figures of 1 for 29, maintaining an economy rate of 7.25 in an innings where Mumbai Indians scored at 12.15 per over, with Suryakumar Yadav as his wicket.
That effort has taken Malinga to the top of the Purple Cap table with 15 wickets. Close behind are Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rajasthan Royals’ Jofra Archer, and Chennai Super Kings’ Anshul Kamboj, all with 14 wickets.
Just behind them are Lucknow Super Giants’ Prince Yadav and Gujarat Titans’ Kagiso Rabada, each with 13 wickets to their name.
