The Indian Premier League has witnessed several major transfers over the years, but few can match the scale of the latest deal between Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants. Ahead of the IPL 2027 season, the two franchises have completed a blockbuster player swap involving Rishabh Pant and Kuldeep Yadav.

The BCCI and IPL Governing Council have officially confirmed the transfer, making it one of the biggest stories in recent IPL 2027 transfer news.

Pant Returns to Delhi Capitals

Rishabh Pant will leave Lucknow Super Giants and return to Delhi Capitals, the franchise where he spent most of his IPL career. Pant played for Delhi from 2016 to 2024 and became one of the team’s most important players and leaders.

After moving to Lucknow in the 2025 Mega Auction for a record ₹27 crore, expectations were extremely high. However, things did not go as planned. Lucknow struggled as a team, while Pant found it difficult to produce his best form consistently.

To make the move back to Delhi possible, Pant agreed to a major salary reduction. His new IPL 2027 salary will be ₹15 crore, which means he has accepted a ₹12 crore pay cut.

Kuldeep Yadav Joins Lucknow Super Giants

As part of the deal, Kuldeep Yadav will move from Delhi Capitals to Lucknow Super Giants. The left-arm wrist-spinner keeps his existing contract worth ₹13.50 crore.

Kuldeep enjoyed a successful spell with Delhi Capitals after joining the franchise in 2022. During his time with the team, he became one of their most reliable wicket-taking bowlers and played a key role in several victories.

The transfer also gives Kuldeep an opportunity to represent a franchise from his home state of Uttar Pradesh.

Pant – Kuldeep Swap Explained

The Pant – Kuldeep swap explained here is quite different from a normal IPL transfer. Instead of one team purchasing a player for cash, both franchises exchanged star players directly.

From a financial point of view, Lucknow benefits significantly. By removing Pant’s ₹27 crore contract and bringing in Kuldeep on a ₹13.50 crore deal, the franchise frees up around ₹13.50 crore in auction funds.

Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, spend slightly more money but successfully bring back one of the biggest faces in the franchise’s history.

DC and LSG Trade Analysis

A detailed DC and LSG trade analysis shows that both teams addressed different needs.

For Delhi Capitals, the return of Pant is both an emotional and tactical boost. The franchise gets back an experienced wicketkeeper-batter and a player who understands the team’s culture. His reunion with Axar Patel also restores an important part of Delhi’s core group.

For Lucknow Super Giants, the move offers financial flexibility and strengthens their bowling attack. Kuldeep’s spin bowling could be highly effective on the slower surfaces at the Ekana International Cricket Stadium.

Who Won the Trade?

It is difficult to declare a clear winner. Delhi Capitals gain their franchise icon, while Lucknow Super Giants receive a world-class spinner and valuable auction purse space.

As far as IPL 2027 transfer news is concerned, this trade will be remembered as one of the biggest player swaps in league history. Both teams will now hope the move helps them challenge for the IPL title in the upcoming season.
