Sunrisers Hyderabad pulled off a remarkable six-wicket win over Mumbai Indians in a high-scoring IPL 2026 clash at the Wankhede Stadium, successfully chasing 244 with eight balls to spare despite a record-breaking innings from Ryan Rickelton.

Mumbai Indians, opting to bat first at the venue for the first time in 22 matches, posted 243 for 5 — their highest first-innings total in IPL history — led by Rickelton’s unbeaten 123 off 55 balls, the highest score by an MI batter in the tournament.

MI Make Strong Start with the Bat

Opening with Will Jacks, Rickelton helped MI make an aggressive start. The pair added 78 runs in the powerplay, with both batters striking freely. Jacks made 46, while Rickelton continued to dominate after the powerplay.

MI surged to 93 inside seven overs before Jacks fell, but Rickelton maintained the momentum. He reached his half-century in 23 balls and later brought up his maiden IPL hundred in just 44 deliveries, the fastest by a Mumbai Indians batter.

Hardik Pandya also contributed as MI advanced to 202 for 3 after 16 overs. However, Sunrisers Hyderabad pulled things back at the death, restricting MI to 41 runs in the final four overs despite Rickelton finishing strongly.

SRH Openers Set the Tone

In response, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head launched a dominant counterattack, adding 129 runs for the opening wicket. The duo collected 92 runs in the powerplay, shifting momentum decisively in SRH’s favour.

Head raced to a 20-ball fifty, while Abhishek contributed 45, as MI struggled to contain the scoring rate.

Brief Fightback from MI

Mumbai Indians managed a short-lived comeback through Ghazanfar and Hardik Pandya, reducing SRH from 129 for no loss to 133 for 3. Abhishek, Ishan Kishan, and Head were dismissed in quick succession, offering a glimmer of hope.

Klaasen and Arora Finish the Job

With the required rate still manageable, Heinrich Klaasen took charge of the chase. He struck an unbeaten 65 off 30 balls, maintaining the scoring momentum and bringing up a rapid half-century.

Salil Arora provided the finishing touch with an unbeaten 30 off 10 balls, ensuring SRH completed the chase comfortably.

SRH Continue Winning Run

The victory marked Sunrisers Hyderabad’s fifth consecutive win, lifting them to third place on the points table. Mumbai Indians, meanwhile, remained ninth after their fourth loss at the Wankhede this season.

Brief Scores:
Sunrisers Hyderabad 249/4 (Head 76, Klaasen 65*, Abhishek 45) beat Mumbai Indians 243/5 (Rickelton 123*, Jacks 46) by six wickets.
