India’s T20I team endured a disappointing tour of England, suffering a 4-0 series defeat. The loss came on the back of another difficult series against Ireland, increasing the pressure on captain Shreyas Iyer and head coach Gautam Gambhir as they continue to rebuild the squad after the T20 World Cup.
With a tour of Zimbabwe coming up, the team management is expected to make several changes. Based on their performances in England, these are three players who should be dropped from India squad ahead of the next T20I assignment.
1. Shivam Dube
Shivam Dube entered the series as India’s pace bowling all-rounder, but he struggled to make an impact with either bat or ball.
In the fifth T20I, Dube scored just 14 runs from 10 balls and failed to provide the finishing role India needed during a difficult run chase. His inability to handle England’s extra pace and bounce was exposed throughout the series.
His bowling also became a concern. Dube conceded 22 runs in his only over during the final match as Jos Buttler and Harry Brook attacked him with ease. On fast overseas pitches, an all-rounder must contribute with the ball, and Dube could not provide the control India required.

2. Abhishek Sharma
Abhishek Sharma was selected to give India an aggressive start in the powerplay, but the young opener failed to adapt to English conditions.
Swing and seam movement troubled him throughout the series, and he repeatedly lost his wicket while trying to attack too early. His final outing summed up his struggles as he managed only 3 runs from 5 balls, once again putting India’s middle order under pressure inside the powerplay.

3. Axar Patel
Axar Patel was expected to lead India’s spin attack, but the experienced all-rounder endured one of his toughest T20I series.
The fifth T20I highlighted his difficulties as Jos Buttler dominated his bowling. Axar finished with figures of 0 for 63 from four overs, one of the most expensive spells of the series.
On pitches that offered little assistance to spin, Axar struggled to trouble England’s batters. His defensive style allowed the opposition to settle quickly, and India failed to take wickets during the middle overs.
With Ravi Bishnoi now available after joining the squad as an injury replacement for Varun Chakaravarthy, India has a more attacking spin option capable of picking up wickets in all conditions.
India T20I Squad Changes Needed
The upcoming Zimbabwe tour presents India with an opportunity to reset after a difficult period. The players India should drop after England Series have all shown their ability in the past, but recent performances suggest fresh faces deserve a chance.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir is expected to continue building a younger, more aggressive T20I side capable of competing overseas. The return of senior stars in the ODI format provides stability, while the T20 squad can focus on developing the next generation.
