A storied contest resumes as India prepare to face England in the second semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium.

India recovered strongly after an early Super 8 setback against South Africa, responding with a dramatic five-wicket win over West Indies to confirm their place in the last four. That chase was headlined by Sanju Samson’s unbeaten 97. With explosive options at the top, strength through the middle, reliable finishers, and a pace unit spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah, India appear well-equipped for conditions at home.

England, meanwhile, enter the knockout clash with momentum firmly on their side. They have strung together five consecutive victories and advanced through the Super 8 stage without defeat. Guided by their aggressive “Bazball” approach tailored for T20 cricket, England combine tactical flexibility with sharp finishing. Harry Brook and Phil Salt have been central to their recent success, and their composure in high-pressure matches underlines the challenge they pose.

T20I Record at Wankhede Stadium

England have featured in six T20Is at the Wankhede Stadium, registering three wins and three defeats. India have played seven T20Is at the venue, winning five of them. Notably, the Men in Blue have remained unbeaten in T20Is at this ground since December 2017.

Mumbai Weather Forecast – March 5

Conditions in Mumbai on Thursday (March 5) are expected to be dry. Daytime temperatures could climb to 39°C before easing to approximately 25°C at night. Barring any unexpected developments, the semi-final on the West Coast is likely to proceed without interruption.

What If the Semi-Final Is Washed Out?

The ICC has outlined clear regulations for knockout matches in the event of weather disruption. A reserve day (likely March 6) has been scheduled, allowing play to resume from the point of interruption or begin afresh if no action was possible on the original day. Extended playing hours and a reduction in overs may be used if required to produce a result.

For the match to be considered valid, each side must face at least 10 overs — a higher threshold than the five-over minimum applied during the group stage. If rain persists across both days and no result can be achieved, the outcome will be determined based on the Super 8 standings.
