Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has lauded Rajasthan Royals youngster Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for his fearless approach and standout performances in the ongoing IPL 2026 season.
Speaking on Jiostar, Gavaskar highlighted the teenager’s ability to execute attacking strokes with precision. “He made excellent use of the field and picked the line beautifully,” Gavaskar said. “The way he strikes the ball with such ease and power is remarkable.”
Impressive Numbers Back Performances
The 15-year-old has been in exceptional form, emerging as a leading contender for the Orange Cap. He has scored 400 runs in nine matches at an average of 44.44 and an impressive strike rate of 238.09. His tally includes one century and two half-centuries, along with 36 sixes — the highest in the tournament so far.
Sooryavanshi first made an impact with a rapid half-century on debut and has since maintained his aggressive approach, taking on bowling attacks across the league.
Fearless Approach Draws Attention
His attacking style, often described as “high-risk, high-reward,” has consistently put bowlers under pressure and added excitement to Rajasthan Royals’ campaign.
Gavaskar also pointed to the youngster’s ability to read bowlers early as a key strength, allowing him to play with confidence and control.
Mindset Behind Success
The former India opener believes Sooryavanshi’s mindset plays a major role in his success.
“What stands out is how unfazed he looks. That’s often the advantage of youth. You play without fear, without worrying about the opposition, and just back your natural game,” Gavaskar explained.
Key Role in RR Campaign
Sooryavanshi has been central to Rajasthan Royals’ strong run this season, with the team registering six wins from nine matches and currently occupying third place on the points table.
They are set to face Delhi Capitals on May 1 in Jaipur as they continue their campaign.
