Warwickshire County Cricket Club have secured the services of Pakistan mystery spinner Usman Tariq for the upcoming Vitality T20 Blast, with the 28-year-old set to feature throughout the tournament before linking up with Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred.

Tariq will remain based at Edgbaston across both competitions, ensuring continuity between his county stint and franchise commitments.

Rapid Rise and Impressive Numbers

Tariq’s emergence in international cricket has been swift. In fewer than two years since his senior T20 debut, he has already represented Pakistan national cricket team at the highest level.

Across nine T20Is, he has claimed 18 wickets at an outstanding average of 11.16, while maintaining an economy rate of 6.66. His bowling style combines offbreaks, googlies, and variations of leg-spin, all delivered with a distinctive pause before release that adds to his unpredictability.

Global Franchise Experience

Strong performances in the Pakistan Super League have propelled Tariq into several franchise leagues worldwide, including the Caribbean Premier League, International League T20, and the Abu Dhabi T10.

His move to Warwickshire marks his first experience in English county cricket, adding another dimension to his growing career.

Warwickshire See High Impact Potential

Warwickshire’s performance director James Thomas highlighted Tariq’s value, pointing to his tactical awareness and ability to influence matches in modern white-ball cricket. The club also emphasized the strategic link between Warwickshire and Birmingham Phoenix, allowing players to transition seamlessly between competitions.

Tariq Eager for Edgbaston Opportunity

Tariq expressed excitement about joining the squad, stating his eagerness to contribute energy and performance to the team while engaging with supporters at Edgbaston during the summer.

Squad Changes Ahead of New Season

Warwickshire head into the new campaign with some changes to their lineup. Moeen Ali has departed to Yorkshire County Cricket Club, while reinforcements include Jordan Thompson and overseas signing Beau Webster.

With Tariq’s arrival, the club will be hoping to strengthen their bowling attack and mount a stronger challenge in this year’s T20 Blast.
