IPL 2026 has given fans many exciting moments. Young players have become stars, teams have played fearless cricket, and several batters have changed the way T20 cricket is being played. However, not every big name has enjoyed a successful season.
Some of the biggest stars of the league struggled badly this year. Expensive auction picks failed to deliver, senior players lost form, and a few captains could not inspire their teams. These performances played a huge role in keeping several franchises away from the playoffs.
Here is a look at the biggest flops of IPL 2026 and the most disappointing players in IPL this season.
Rishabh Pant – The Costly Struggle
Rishabh Pant entered IPL 2026 with huge expectations after becoming the most expensive player in IPL history. Lucknow Super Giants invested ₹27 crore in him and hoped he would lead the side strongly.
Instead, Pant had a very difficult season. He scored only 312 runs in 14 matches with an average of 28.36. His batting lacked fluency, and he often looked under pressure while trying to anchor the innings.
LSG finished at the bottom of the points table, making Pant one of the biggest disappointments of the tournament.
Cameron Green Fails to Deliver
Cameron Green was expected to become the main all round star for Kolkata Knight Riders after being bought for ₹25.20 crore.
While he scored 322 runs, his overall impact remained low. His bowling became a major problem for KKR as he picked up only seven wickets and leaked runs at an economy above 10.
KKR finished seventh, and Green’s inconsistent performances became one of the key reasons behind their poor campaign.
Jasprit Bumrah’s Shocking Season
Perhaps the most surprising name on the list is Jasprit Bumrah. The Mumbai Indians pace leader had one of the toughest seasons of his career.
Known as one of the best bowlers in the world, Bumrah managed only four wickets in the entire tournament. While he still controlled runs reasonably well, he failed to provide crucial breakthroughs.
Mumbai Indians struggled throughout the season and ended in ninth place, which made Bumrah’s lack of wickets even more noticeable.
Nicholas Pooran Loses His Power
Nicholas Pooran is usually known for explosive batting and big sixes. But IPL 2026 turned into a nightmare season for the LSG batter.
Pooran averaged just 16.73 and never really found rhythm with the bat. His golden duck against KKR in a tense Super Over became one of the lowest moments of his campaign.
Lucknow needed Pooran to dominate bowling attacks, but his poor form hurt the team badly.
Hardik Pandya’s Difficult Captaincy Season
Hardik Pandya also had a season to forget with Mumbai Indians. The captain struggled with both bat and ball.
He averaged only 20.86 with the bat and took just four wickets during the season. His bowling economy also remained very expensive.
With MI failing to build momentum, criticism around Hardik’s captaincy continued throughout IPL 2026.
Other Disappointing Names
Several other stars also failed to meet expectations this season.
Ruturaj Gaikwad struggled with strike rate issues for Chennai Super Kings, while Suryakumar Yadav could not produce his usual attacking batting for Mumbai Indians.
Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav had a difficult bowling season for Delhi Capitals as he leaked runs regularly.
IPL 2026 proved once again that reputation alone is never enough in T20 cricket. Even the biggest stars can struggle when form and confidence disappear.
