KKR’s campaign has been troubled from the outset. Injuries to key pacers Harshit Rana and Akash Deep disrupted their plans early, while uncertainty over Matheesha Pathirana’s availability further weakened their bowling resources. With Cameron Green only occasionally contributing with the ball, the side has relied on an inexperienced pace unit that has struggled to make an impact. As a result, KKR have emerged as one of the least effective pace bowling teams statistically this season.
Reflecting on the situation, Ajinkya Rahane acknowledged the challenge. “The guys who are bowling in the Powerplay are inexperienced. That’s the truth. That’s the honest truth,” he said after the loss to Gujarat Titans.
Batting Concerns Add to KKR’s Woes
The issues extend beyond bowling. Finn Allen has been unable to convert starts into meaningful contributions and has been moved out of the playing XI. Rinku Singh is enduring a lean patch, while Rahane himself has faced the added burden of leading a side under pressure.
KKR’s struggles are particularly evident in the Powerplay. Across six matches, they have lost 12 wickets in the first six overs while scoring at just over nine runs per over, placing them among the least effective batting units in that phase.

With both teams approaching the match from contrasting positions, the encounter sets up as a test of KKR’s ability to recover quickly against a Royals side eager to return to winning ways.
