Gujarat Titans extended Kolkata Knight Riders’ struggles in IPL 2026, handing them a sixth consecutive defeat with a five-wicket win. A disciplined bowling display followed by a composed chase, led by Shubman Gill’s 86, ensured GT chased down 181 after restricting KKR to 180.

GT Bowlers Keep KKR in Check

KKR’s innings never fully gathered momentum despite a late surge. Cameron Green top-scored with 79 off 55 balls, but his knock was split between a slow start, a brief acceleration, and a quiet finish. At one stage, KKR looked set for a bigger total at 147/4 in the 15th over, but a collapse saw them lose 5 wickets for 26 runs, eventually being bowled out for 180.

The early overs were dominated by Gujarat’s seamers. Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada generated movement with the new ball, removing key batters and restricting KKR to 37/1 in the powerplay, one of the lowest totals in that phase this season.

Green’s Knock Fails to Lift KKR

Green initially struggled for fluency, scoring 27 off his first 29 deliveries before accelerating with aggressive strokeplay, particularly against spin. However, he was left stranded during the late collapse, facing limited deliveries as wickets fell at the other end.

His innings ended on a subdued note, as he managed just four runs off his final 11 balls, reflecting KKR’s inability to capitalise on their mid-innings momentum.

Gill Anchors the Chase

Chasing 181, Gujarat Titans made a strong start, racing to 71/1 inside the powerplay. Gill led the charge with an aggressive approach early on, scoring 34 off 15 balls during the first six overs.

As the innings progressed, Gill slowed down, shifting focus to controlling the chase. His measured approach ensured stability, even as wickets fell at the other end. Contributions from Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler helped maintain the tempo during the initial phase.

Late Nerves Before Finish

Despite the strong start, GT’s middle order found it difficult to close out the chase smoothly. Washington Sundar added 13, while Glenn Phillips and Rahul Tewatia were involved in the closing stages.

Gill’s dismissal in the 17th over added a hint of tension, and KKR briefly stayed in contention. However, Gujarat eventually reached the target with two balls remaining to complete the win.

Contrasting Fortunes Continue

The result underlined Gujarat Titans’ effective template — tight fast bowling followed by a controlled chase — while KKR’s campaign continued to falter with another defeat.
