A dominant showing from Sunrisers Hyderabad’s top order, backed by a disciplined bowling effort, powered the hosts to a 33-run victory over Punjab Kings, despite a standout hundred from Cooper Connolly.

The old saying that catches decide matches proved relevant once again. Punjab Kings let three chances slip and missed a stumping opportunity, while SRH, despite dropping a couple, held onto key moments in the field. The result saw SRH overcome Connolly’s maiden century and move to the top of the points table ahead of PBKS..

Explosive Batting Powers SRH to 235

The foundation was laid early by Travis Head (38 off 19) and Abhishek Sharma (35 off 13), who gave SRH a flying start.

The momentum continued through Heinrich Klaasen and Ishan Kishan. Klaasen’s 69 off 43 anchored the innings, while Kishan added a fluent 55 off 32.

A late flourish from Nitish Kumar Reddy, who struck 29* off 13, ensured SRH finished on an imposing 235 for 4.

Klaasen once again underlined his importance in the middle order. Given a reprieve earlier in his innings, he punished PBKS with a composed and aggressive knock.

His ability to balance risk and control allowed SRH to maintain scoring momentum throughout the innings.

Reddy Delivers All-Round Impact

Reddy’s role as a finisher continues to grow this season. After an unsuccessful stint in the lower middle order last year, he has adapted well with Klaasen fixed at number four. His quickfire 29 off 13 balls pushed SRH beyond the 230 mark, providing strong support in the final overs.

Early Strikes Seal Control

Captain Pat Cummins led from the front with the ball, removing Priyansh Arya early.

Eshan Malinga then struck to dismiss Shreyas Iyer, while Shivang Kumar accounted for Marcus Stoinis.

With PBKS reduced to 110 for 5, the chase was effectively out of reach.

Connolly’s Lone Fight

Cooper Connolly emerged as the only significant contributor for Punjab Kings with a determined 107 off 59 balls. The innings, though impressive, lacked support from the rest of the batting lineup.

His knock stood out as the lone highlight for PBKS in an otherwise disappointing outing for Shreyas Iyer’s side.

SRH Take Control of Standings

The victory lifts Sunrisers Hyderabad to the top of the IPL 2026 points table, highlighting their strong all-round form. Punjab Kings, meanwhile, will need to regroup after missed opportunities in both fielding and batting. PBKS will next host Delhi Capitals in Dharamshala, while SRH are set to face Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad.
