Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has been penalised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) following his side’s narrow victory over Delhi Capitals in Match No. 14 of IPL 2026 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Despite securing their first win of the season, Gujarat Titans face a slow over-rate offence resulting in a financial penalty for their captain.
Gujarat Titans Edge Thriller by One Run
Gujarat Titans posted a strong total of 210/4 after being put in to bat. Gill led the effort with 70, while Washington Sundar contributed 55 and Jos Buttler added 52.
With the ball, Rashid Khan was the standout performer, claiming 3 for 17, while Prasidh Krishna picked up two wickets to keep the opposition in check.
Delhi Capitals mounted a strong chase in response. KL Rahul scored 92, and David Miller remained unbeaten on 41 to take the contest deep into the final over.
With two runs required off the last two balls, Miller declined a single on the fifth delivery. On the final ball, he failed to connect, and Kuldeep Yadav was run out, leaving Delhi Capitals at 209/8—one run short of the target.
Gill Penalised Under IPL Code of Conduct
Following the match, Gujarat Titans were charged under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct for failing to complete their overs within the stipulated time.
The IPL confirmed the sanction in an official statement:
“Gujarat Titans (GT) Captain Shubman Gill has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 14 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Delhi Capitals (DC) at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.
As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Gill was fined INR 12 lakhs.”
First Offence of the Season
This marks Gill’s first slow over-rate offence in IPL 2026. He joins Shreyas Iyer among captains penalised this season under the revised disciplinary framework, which emphasises fines, demerit points, and in-game penalties rather than suspensions.
Points Table Update
With the win, Gujarat Titans moved to sixth place with two points from three matches and a net run rate of -0.270. Delhi Capitals, despite the loss, remain fourth with four points from three games and a net run rate of +0.811.
While Gujarat Titans celebrated a dramatic first victory of the campaign, the slow over-rate penalty serves as a reminder of the strict enforcement of match regulations, even in winning efforts.
