Sameer Rizvi delivered another match-winning performance as Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by six wickets in IPL 2026, completing the chase with 11 balls to spare at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Rizvi struck 90 off 51 balls and secured his second consecutive Player-of-the-Match award this season. Including his final appearance of IPL 2025, it marked his third successive award, a feat achieved by only a handful of players.

DC Bowlers Restrict MI

Delhi Capitals first limited Mumbai Indians to 162 for 6 on a slow surface. With Hardik Pandya unavailable, Suryakumar Yadav led the side and top-scored with 51 off 36 balls.

The innings began steadily, with Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma finding boundaries early, but Mukesh Kumar turned the tide in his second over. He dismissed Rickelton and Tilak Varma in quick succession to put MI under pressure.

Axar Patel tightened things further, conceding just three runs in an over and later dismissing Rohit Sharma for 35. Sherfane Rutherford fell soon after, while Suryakumar kept the scoreboard moving, including two sixes off Kuldeep Yadav.

Suryakumar reached his fifty before being dismissed lbw by Lungi Ngidi in the following delivery. Mumbai Indians managed only 38 runs in the death overs.

Early Setbacks for DC

Chasing 163, Delhi Capitals lost KL Rahul for 1 and Nitish Rana to a run-out in the opening overs, slipping to 7 for 2.

Pathum Nissanka responded with a counterattacking 44 off 30 balls, hitting boundaries regularly to stabilise the innings. However, he was dismissed soon after receiving a reprieve on 41.

At the halfway stage, DC were 73 for 3, matching MI’s position at the same point, leaving the contest evenly poised.

Rizvi Takes Control

Rizvi shifted the momentum decisively with an aggressive approach. In one over against Corbin Bosch, he struck multiple boundaries to collect 20 runs, turning the chase in DC’s favour.

He followed it up with consecutive sixes off Mayank Markande to bring up his half-century in 31 balls. His dominance ensured that the required rate dropped rapidly, with David Miller playing a supporting role.

By the end of the 15th over, the outcome was effectively sealed.

Late Finish

With 25 runs needed and Rizvi closing in on a century, the focus briefly shifted to his personal milestone. However, he fell for 90 attempting a big shot off Bosch.

Delhi Capitals completed the chase soon after, finishing on 164 for 4 and sealing a six-wicket victory.
