Chennai Super Kings pulled off a thrilling five-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants, chasing down 204 at Chepauk to record their first successful 200-plus chase since 2018.

The victory, powered by Urvil Patel’s extraordinary 65 off 23 balls and Jamie Overton’s important spell of 3 for 36, lifted CSK to fifth place in the points table and extended their winning run to three matches.

Inglis Gives LSG a Blazing Start

Lucknow Super Giants began aggressively after Mitchell Marsh gave up first strike to Josh Inglis. The move worked immediately, with Inglis attacking Akeal Hosein for three consecutive boundaries in the opening over.

He continued to unsettle CSK’s plans with inventive strokeplay, repeatedly using ramps and scoring behind the wicket. Inglis raced to 77 off 25 balls by the end of the powerplay, placing him among the highest scorers inside the field restrictions in IPL history.

Noor and Overton Pull CSK Back

After the powerplay, CSK regained control through Noor Ahmad and Jamie Overton. Noor continued his improved form, keeping Nicholas Pooran quiet and maintaining pressure through the middle overs.

Overton then made a major impact by removing Inglis, who was caught behind attempting another scoop. Mixing pace-on and pace-off deliveries while hitting the pitch hard, Overton bowled 10 dot balls in his first 18 deliveries and picked up two wickets.

LSG slowed considerably after the powerplay, losing momentum despite Shahbaz Ahmed’s late contribution. His six off the final ball helped push the total to 203 for 8.

Urvil Changes the Chase

CSK’s chase was transformed by Urvil Patel, who produced one of the most explosive innings of the season. He reached his fifty in just 13 balls, equalling the IPL record for the fastest half-century.

Urvil’s assault included a sequence of brutal hitting, with most of his sixes launched over midwicket. He struck five sixes and a four in a short burst that turned the match sharply in CSK’s favour.

At one point, he had a chance to break the record outright, but eventually shared the mark with Yashasvi Jaiswal. By the time Urvil was dismissed for 65 off 23 balls, CSK needed 78 from 64 deliveries.

LSG Fight Back Before Dube Finishes It

Lucknow made the chase tense after Urvil’s dismissal, conceding only 43 runs in the next 41 balls while taking three wickets. Ruturaj Gaikwad, who had started well with his highest first-10-ball score in the IPL, could not fully close out the chase.

Dewald Brevis and Kartik Sharma also fell as LSG built pressure, leaving Shivam Dube and Impact Player Prashant Veer with 35 required from 23 balls.

Veer survived two dropped chances in the 19th over before striking a six to reduce the equation to 10 from the final over. LSG turned to Aiden Markram, but Dube sealed the win with back-to-back sixes.

CSK’s victory marked another important step in their late-season push, with Urvil’s record-equalling blitz and Overton’s control proving decisive.
