KL Rahul is preparing for a fresh chapter with Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2026 after being signed by the franchise for INR 14 crore at the mega auction. The right-handed batter featured prominently in the previous season, scoring 539 runs across 13 matches, largely operating in the middle order.

Although he opened the innings in a few games, he did not take strike on those occasions. His responsibilities could shift in the upcoming 19th edition of the tournament. As reported by The Times of India, Rahul is likely to open the batting and also take up wicketkeeping duties for the side. He currently performs the wicketkeeper’s role for the Indian National Cricket Team in ODIs.

Rahul is also targeting a return to India’s T20I setup and could enhance his chances through strong performances in the forthcoming season.

His last appearance in T20 internationals for India came during the 2022 World Cup in Australia. He led the team in that tournament, where the side suffered a semi-final defeat to England.

While Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were recalled to the T20I squad for the 2024 World Cup, Rahul was not included by the selectors. He continues to represent India in both Test cricket and the fifty-over format.

Delhi Capitals are scheduled to begin their campaign against Lucknow Super Giants on April 1. They will then face Mumbai Indians on April 4, host Gujarat Titans on April 8, and travel to Chennai to play Chennai Super Kings on April 11.

The franchise will be led by Axar Patel this season. Despite a strong start in the previous campaign, the team fell short of a playoff berth. Meanwhile, mentor Kevin Pietersen has stepped down from his role.
