Ireland Complete Famous 2-0 Series Victory

Ireland completed one of the greatest achievements in their cricket history by defeating India by one run in the second T20I in Belfast, sealing a remarkable 2-0 series sweep over the reigning T20 World Champions.

The victory ended India’s unbeaten bilateral T20I series streak, which had lasted for 16 consecutive series and nearly three years. After winning the opening match by 34 runs, Ireland registered another memorable triumph.

Harry Tector anchored the innings with a composed half-century before Jai Moondra produced a devastating new-ball spell that left India chasing the game throughout.

Tector Anchors Ireland’s Innings

Playing his 100th T20 International, Harry Tector delivered another important innings when his team needed it most.

Coming to the crease in just the second over, Tector carefully rebuilt the innings while rotating the strike and punishing loose deliveries. He accelerated whenever the opportunity arose, including a six off a free hit during Suryansh Shedge’s expensive over.

Tector shared a crucial 65-run partnership with Ben Calitz, whose aggressive approach complemented Tector’s measured batting perfectly. Their stand laid the platform for Ireland’s total of 154/8, with Tector finishing as the top scorer with 53.

Prince Impresses on Debut

India found their way back into the contest through debutant Prince, who delivered an outstanding spell.

The fast bowler finished with figures of 3/22 after replacing Prasidh Krishna in the playing XI. He dismissed the dangerous Calitz before removing Gareth Delany with an excellent wobble-seam delivery that crashed into the stumps.

Prince returned at the death to claim two more wickets, removing Tector with a back-of-a-length delivery before cleaning up Liam McCarthy with a slower ball in the final over to keep Ireland’s total within reach.

Moondra’s Stunning Opening Spell Rocks India

Ireland’s defence could not have started any better.

Left-arm pacer Jai Moondra struck with the very first ball of India’s innings, trapping Sanju Samson for a golden duck with a superb inswinger. Before the over ended, he also dismissed Abhishek Sharma first ball, making it only the fourth occasion in T20 International history that both opening batters had fallen for golden ducks.

Moondra continued to dismantle India’s top order by removing captain Shreyas Iyer before playing a key role in Ishan Kishan’s run out through Ross Adair’s direct hit.

India suddenly found themselves struggling at 35/4, with Ireland firmly in control of the contest.

Tilak Varma Fights Alone

Despite the early collapse, Tilak Varma attempted to rescue India’s chase.

He shared a rebuilding partnership with Axar Patel as India focused on taking the chase deep rather than forcing the pace. However, Matt Hollard broke the stand by dismissing Axar with extra bounce, placing further pressure on the middle order.

Ireland’s bowlers maintained excellent discipline throughout the innings. Left-arm spinner Matt Humphreys cleverly used the larger square boundary to dismiss Shivam Dube, while Hollard and the rest of the attack prevented India from finding regular boundaries.

Tilak battled until the closing stages, scoring a determined 55 from 46 balls, but his dismissal effectively ended India’s hopes. Ireland held their nerve to restrict India to 153/9 and complete a famous one-run victory.

Historic Result for Ireland

Ireland’s series sweep will rank among the greatest achievements in the country’s cricket history.

After securing their maiden victory over India in the opening match, they followed it with an even more dramatic win to complete a historic 2-0 clean sweep over the reigning world champions.

For India, the defeat brought an abrupt end to an outstanding run of bilateral T20I dominance and marked a disappointing start to Shreyas Iyer’s tenure as captain, while Ireland celebrated a landmark series victory that will be remembered for years to come.
