Los Angeles Knight Riders climbed to third place on the MLC 2026 points table after defeating Washington Freedom by 18 runs in Dallas.
Andre Fletcher struck 59 off 40 balls, while Matthew Tromp added 50 from 32 deliveries as LAKR posted 192 for 8. Their bowlers then combined well to restrict Washington Freedom to 174 for 8.
The result moved LAKR to eight points, level with the teams placed second to fifth, but they sit ahead of MI New York and fifth-placed Freedom on net run rate.
Fletcher And Tromp Lead LAKR Recovery
Washington Freedom chose to bowl first and made an excellent start with early wickets. Colin Munro and Andre Russell were dismissed inside the first two overs, leaving LAKR under pressure. However, Fletcher and Tromp responded with an aggressive counterattack. The pair targeted the final three overs of the powerplay, adding 39 runs during that period and taking their partnership to 50 after seven overs.
Fletcher was the first to reach his half-century, getting there from 35 balls. The partnership eventually reached 90 before Ben Dwarshuis broke through, with Fletcher caught by Steven Smith at long-off. Tromp completed his fifty three balls later, but fell in the same over after finding Mitchell Owen at deep cover.
Late Runs Lift LAKR To 192
Washington Freedom pulled things back with regular wickets after the Fletcher-Tromp stand. However, LAKR still found important late momentum through Saif Badar and Jahmar Hamilton. Badar struck 24 off 12 balls, while Hamilton remained unbeaten on 22 from 12 deliveries.
Their late hitting helped LAKR score 41 runs from the final three overs, pushing the total to a strong 192 for 8.
Saurabh Netravalkar was the pick of the Freedom bowlers, finishing with 3 for 33.
Freedom Lose Early Wickets In Chase
Washington Freedom’s chase got off to a difficult start as they slipped to 41 for 3 in the powerplay. Sunil Narine set the tone with a tight opening spell, bowling three overs for just 11 runs and taking the wicket of Mitchell Owen for 17.
Andre Russell then made a major impact in the sixth over, removing Steven Smith and Rachin Ravindra to put LAKR firmly in control. Ali Khan also bowled economically as LAKR kept Freedom behind the required rate during the first nine overs.
Gous And Milantha Fight Back
With the required run rate climbing above 12 an over, Andries Gous and Lahiru Milantha attempted to bring Freedom back into the contest. The pair attacked strongly, scoring 49 runs in three overs to revive the chase.
However, Narine returned to slow the momentum, conceding only three runs in his final over and completing his spell with impressive figures of 1 for 14. Ali then struck twice in the 14th over, dismissing both Gous for 37 and Milantha for 40.
That double blow left Freedom needing another recovery.
LAKR Close Out Important Win
Ben Dwarshuis and Nikhil Chaudhary produced late cameos, but Washington Freedom were unable to keep pace with the required rate. Russell finished with 3 for 34, while Ali claimed 2 for 18 in a disciplined LAKR bowling display.
Freedom ended on 174 for 8, falling 18 runs short.
For LAKR, the win was an important boost in a tightly packed points table. Fletcher and Tromp provided the batting foundation, while Narine, Russell and Ali ensured Freedom never fully took control of the chase.
