The IPL 2026 playoff race took a dramatic turn after Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Chennai Super Kings by five wickets at Chepauk in Match 63. The result not only confirmed SRH’s place in the playoffs but also changed the entire points table equation for the remaining teams.

With the league stage nearing its end, the IPL 2026 playoffs scenarios have become clearer at the top and far more intense in the middle of the table.

SRH victory seals three playoff spots

SRH’s successful chase of 181 had a massive impact on the standings. Their win pushed them to 16 points and officially confirmed qualification for the playoffs.

At the same time, the defeat ended CSK’s direct route to 16 points. This also helped Gujarat Titans secure qualification because there are no longer enough teams capable of crossing them in the table.

As a result, three teams have now officially booked playoff spots:

  1. Royal Challengers Bengaluru
  2. Gujarat Titans
  3. Sunrisers Hyderabad

This leaves only one playoff position still open.

IPL 2026 playoff race gets crowded

The battle for the final playoff spot is now between five teams:

  • Punjab Kings
  • Rajasthan Royals
  • Chennai Super Kings
  • Delhi Capitals
  • Kolkata Knight Riders

Punjab Kings currently hold the advantage with 13 points from 13 matches. One win in their final game will take them to 15 points and guarantee qualification.

However, if PBKS lose, the race opens up completely for the teams stuck on 12 points.

Rajasthan Royals are in a strong position because they still have two matches left. Winning both games would take them to 16 points and secure qualification comfortably.

Meanwhile, CSK, DC, and KKR are now heavily dependent on other results.

Can CSK qualify after losing against SRH?

Many fans are asking: Can CSK qualify after losing against SRH?

The answer is yes, but the road is now extremely difficult.

CSK slipped to sixth place after the defeat and their Net Run Rate also dropped into negative territory. They no longer control their own fate in the IPL 2026 playoffs scenarios.

Can CSK qualify for the playoffs in 2026?

For CSK to qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs, several results must go in their favor.

CSK must beat GT

CSK’s final league game against Gujarat Titans is now a must win contest. Victory would take them to 14 points. A loss would officially eliminate them.

Punjab Kings must lose

Punjab Kings cannot be allowed to reach 15 points. If PBKS win their final game, CSK are knocked out immediately.

Rajasthan Royals need to slip

RR must lose both remaining games or finish with a weaker Net Run Rate if they end level on points with CSK.

Net Run Rate could decide qualification

If Delhi Capitals or Kolkata Knight Riders also finish on 14 points, qualification may come down to Net Run Rate. CSK will likely need a big win over GT to improve their numbers.

IPL 2026 playoff probabilities and impact

Right now, Punjab Kings remain favorites for the final playoff spot because qualification is still in their own hands.

Rajasthan Royals also have a strong chance because of their extra game.

CSK’s defeat against SRH has reduced their playoff probabilities significantly. They now need multiple results to go their way in the final week of the league stage.

The biggest impact of SRH’s victory is that the top three spots are now locked, while the race for fourth place has turned into a high pressure fight involving five teams.
