Sri Lanka Women took a 1-0 lead in the T20I series against Bangladesh Women after securing a 25-run victory in the first match in Sylhet, with captain Chamari Athapaththu delivering a key all-round performance. The result follows Sri Lanka’s 2-1 win in the preceding ODI series.

Sri Lanka Build Competitive Total

Batting first, Sri Lanka posted 161 for 4 in their 20 overs. Athapaththu contributed a steady 32, providing stability at the top of the innings.

Imesha Dulani and Harshitha Samarawickrama played pivotal roles in building the total, scoring 55 and 61 respectively to ensure Sri Lanka maintained momentum throughout.

For Bangladesh, Sultana Khatun led the bowling effort with two wickets, while Marufa Akter and Nahida Akter picked up one each.

Sri Lanka Strike Regularly in Chase

In reply, Bangladesh started on a positive note but were unable to sustain their progress as Sri Lanka’s bowlers struck at regular intervals.

Athapaththu made an early impact by dismissing Juairiya Ferdous for 16 and later removed Sobhana Mostary for 16 in the 14th over, applying pressure during key phases of the innings.

Shorna’s Effort in Vain

Shorna Akter kept Bangladesh in the contest with a fighting 60, but her innings ended in a run-out, halting any hopes of a late surge.

Malki Madara and Mithali Ayodhya provided strong support with the ball, claiming two wickets each as Bangladesh were restricted to 136 for 7 in their 20 overs.

Series Continues in Sylhet

The two sides are set to meet again in Sylhet on April 30 for the second T20I, with Sri Lanka holding the advantage after the opening match.
