Pakistan secured a hard-fought victory over Australia in a low-scoring encounter in Lahore, successfully chasing down a target of 158 to seal their third consecutive ODI series win against the visitors.

After comfortably defending 231 in the previous match, Pakistan once again showed composure under pressure, reaching the target with four wickets in hand and 49 balls remaining on a challenging spin-friendly surface.

Spin-Dominated Conditions Shape the Match

The pitch in Lahore offered significant assistance to spinners, with sharp turn and uneven bounce making batting increasingly difficult, especially during the chase.

Pakistan’s strategy of preparing spin-heavy surfaces was aimed at testing their squad ahead of the upcoming ODI World Cup, and it played a key role in the outcome of the series decider.

Babar Azam Anchors the Chase

Pakistan’s innings began positively with Maaz Sadaqat scoring a quick 27 off 26 balls, but early wickets put the hosts under pressure.

The chase was then anchored by Babar Azam, who produced a composed 40 from 84 deliveries. His patient approach helped stabilize the innings on a difficult surface, despite constant pressure from Australia’s bowlers.

Shadab Khan Finishes the Job

Pakistan were in trouble at 112 for 6, but Shadab Khan held his nerve and guided the team to victory with an unbeaten 29.

He shared a crucial 49-run partnership with Abdul Samad, ensuring there were no further setbacks as Pakistan crossed the finish line comfortably.

Pakistan Bowlers Restrict Australia to 157

Earlier in the match, Pakistan’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance to bowl Australia out for 157 in 42 overs.

Shaheen Shah Afridi led the attack with three wickets, while Abrar Ahmed and Shadab Khan picked up two wickets each to trigger a collapse after Australia were well placed at 119 for 3.

Josh Inglis was the standout performer for Australia with 65, but a lack of support from the rest of the batting lineup proved costly.

Series Win Boosts Pakistan’s Confidence

The victory marked an important achievement for Pakistan, especially after recent struggles in international cricket.

While questions remain about the suitability of spin-heavy conditions as preparation for the 2027 ODI World Cup, the series win provides a timely boost in confidence for the team moving forward.
