Mitchell Marsh and Dan Lawrence produced explosive half-centuries as Sunrisers Leeds held off Southern Brave by five runs in a thrilling contest at Headingley.
Marsh laid the foundation with a powerful 69 from 34 balls before Lawrence struck an unbeaten 51 from 24 deliveries to lift the hosts to 187 for 5. Southern Brave mounted a strong chase, but despite an unbeaten 43 from Tristan Stubbs, they finished on 182 for 5.
The result gave Sunrisers Leeds their first victory of the season.
Marsh and Rickelton Dominate the Powerplay
Marsh, who had scored 41 on debut earlier in the week, made an immediate impact in his first home appearance. The Australian all-rounder shared a superb opening stand of 111 from 56 balls with Ryan Rickelton as the pair took full advantage of the batting-friendly conditions.
Rickelton contributed 37 from 27 balls before top-edging a delivery from Adil Rashid to Dan Worrall.

Rashid then struck again three balls later when Marsh, who had launched six sixes, drove firmly to Chris Jordan at extra cover.
Zak Crawley followed immediately, dismissed for a golden duck by a 43mph delivery from Rashid.
Lawrence Revives Sunrisers After Middle-Order Wobble
Harry Brook was bowled by Marcus Stoinis for three soon afterwards, giving Southern Brave hope of restricting the hosts after their dominant start.

Lawrence, however, quickly restored the momentum.
The England batter attacked Jofra Archer by hitting consecutive sixes, with the fast bowler conceding 47 runs from his 20 deliveries without taking a wicket.
Lawrence combined with Tom Alsop in a rapid partnership of 67 from 30 balls. Alsop struck 21 from 10, while Lawrence completed his half-century from 24 deliveries and remained unbeaten on 51.
Their late acceleration carried Sunrisers to 187 for 5.
McKinney Gives Brave a Fast Start
Southern Brave began the chase aggressively through Ben McKinney. The opener smashed 44 from 23 balls before being dismissed by his Durham teammate Matt Potts.
Jamie Smith maintained the pressure with 30 from 18 deliveries, including three sixes, but was caught by Brook at long-on off Matthew Revis.

Stoinis then attacked Brydon Carse and Revis, reducing the requirement to 72 runs from the final 40 balls.
Abrar Ahmed Changes the Match
Abrar Ahmed had struggled during his first 10 deliveries, but captain Crawley backed him with consecutive sets of five and the decision proved crucial.
The spinner removed David Miller, who sliced a catch to point, before dismissing Stoinis for 31 from 16 balls when the Australian reverse-slapped a delivery straight to Alsop.
Those wickets slowed Southern Brave at a key stage of the chase.
Sunrisers Survive Stubbs’ Late Assault
Stubbs kept Brave in contention with a brilliant late counterattack. He struck Revis for consecutive sixes before hitting Potts for back-to-back fours, leaving the visitors with a chance of completing the chase.
Nathan Ellis then delivered a superb spell at the death, conceding only nine runs from his final 10 balls and removing Nikhil Chaudhary.
With 21 needed from the final five deliveries, Potts held his nerve to secure a five-run victory for Sunrisers despite Stubbs finishing unbeaten on 43 from 20 balls.
Marsh praised the team’s composure in the closing stages.
“The way we bowled there towards the end was exceptional,” Marsh said. “It was a great win to kickstart our season. Headingley is a beautiful place to bat. It feels quite small. I love batting here.”
