Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) head into their IPL 2026 fixture in Ahmedabad under mounting pressure, with anything less than a win pushing them closer to a do-or-die situation despite the tournament not yet reaching its halfway stage.

While Gujarat Titans (GT) have had a mixed start with two wins and two losses to sit sixth on the table, KKR remain at the bottom with four defeats and one no result from five matches, leaving them with just a single point so far.

KKR Searching for Answers

KKR are still trying to settle on a consistent approach, with several key players yet to make an impact. Overseas names Finn Allen and Cameron Green have not delivered significant returns, while Rinku Singh and Ramandeep Singh have also struggled to find form.

The decision to promote Sunil Narine to the top of the order in their previous game disrupted the batting structure, pushing Ajinkya Rahane down the order despite his effectiveness in the powerplay. Although Narine has regained form with the ball, and pacers Kartik Tyagi and Vaibhav Arora have shown improvement, the side still needs Varun Chakravarthy to step up.

Gujarat Titans Gain Momentum

In contrast, Gujarat Titans appear to be finding rhythm after an inconsistent start. Shubman Gill and B Sai Sudharsan have been consistent at the top, while Jos Buttler has returned to form after the T20 World Cup.

The bowling unit has also been effective, with Prasidh Krishna’s slower deliveries troubling batters and Rashid Khan regaining form. GT come into the match aiming for a third consecutive win, which would strengthen their push towards the top four.

Team News and Probable XIs

GT are expected to field the same XII that secured a seven-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants, with no injury concerns reported.

Gujarat Titans (probable XII):
Shubman Gill (capt), B Sai Sudharsan, Jos Buttler (wk), Washington Sundar, Glenn Phillips, Rahul Tewatia, M Shahrukh Khan, Rashid Khan, Kagiso Rabada, Ashok Sharma, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj

Matheesha Pathirana has received clearance but will not be available for this fixture due to logistical reasons.

Kolkata Knight Riders (probable XII):
Finn Allen/Tim Seifert, Sunil Narine, Ajinkya Rahane (capt), Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Cameron Green, Rinku Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Rovman Powell, Anukul Roy, Vaibhav Arora, Kartik Tyagi, Varun Chakravarthy

Players in Focus

Prasidh Krishna has been one of GT’s standout performers, using variations in pace and length effectively. He is currently among the joint-highest wicket-takers and has been instrumental in their victories.

Rinku Singh, meanwhile, is yet to find his rhythm this season. Elevated to vice-captaincy, he has managed only one six in four innings with a strike rate of 120, and KKR will need a significant contribution from him to revive their campaign.

Key Stats and Conditions

  • Anukul Roy could be a key matchup against Jos Buttler, who has had a strike rate of 92 against left-arm spin since January 1, 2026.
  • Sunil Narine continues to maintain an economy rate below other spinners across IPL eras, including 7.39 since 2023.
  • Rashid Khan has an economy of 6.9 this season, rising to 8.4 in losses.

The match will be played on pitch No. 6 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, which previously offered good batting conditions during the T20 World Cup, with some early swing for pacers. Teams winning the toss are likely to prefer chasing.
