Yashasvi Jaiswal’s explosive unbeaten knock powered Rajasthan Royals to a 27-run victory over Mumbai Indians in an 11-over contest in IPL 2026, after rain delayed the start in Guwahati by more than two-and-a-half hours.

Once play finally got underway at 10:10 PM, Rajasthan wasted no time asserting control. Openers Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi launched a fierce assault, adding 80 runs in just five overs. While Sooryavanshi fell for a rapid 39 off 14 balls, Jaiswal carried on the charge, finishing unbeaten on 77 off 32 deliveries to guide Royals to 150 for 3.

In response, Mumbai Indians struggled to keep up with the steep chase. Reduced to 29 for 3 in a shortened powerplay of 3.2 overs, they eventually managed 123 for 9. Rajasthan’s bowlers shared the spoils, with Jofra Archer striking early and Sandeep Sharma, Nandre Burger, and Ravi Bishnoi claiming two wickets each. The win took Royals to the top of the points table with three victories in as many matches, while Mumbai suffered their second consecutive loss.

Explosive Start Sets the Tone

Jaiswal and Sooryavanshi capitalised on the conditions in the rain-affected game, attacking from the outset. Jaiswal set the tempo in the opening over, striking Deepak Chahar for a flurry of boundaries.

The highlight of the early exchanges came when Sooryavanshi faced Jasprit Bumrah for the first time. He responded with confidence, hitting a six over long-on and adding another maximum later in the over, scoring 13 runs from five deliveries.

The aggressive approach continued against Trent Boult, with both batters clearing the ropes as Rajasthan raced to 59 without loss by the end of the 20-ball powerplay.

Jaiswal Anchors Dominant Total

Jaiswal maintained his momentum throughout the innings, reaching his half-century in just 23 balls. He struck boundaries consistently, including a straight six off Bumrah, and ensured Rajasthan kept the pressure on.

Despite losing Sooryavanshi, Dhruv Jurel, and Riyan Parag in the middle overs, Jaiswal remained in control. He finished strongly, collecting three boundaries in the final over to push the total to 150.

Mumbai’s Chase Falters Early

Mumbai’s reply began with early setbacks. Ryan Rickelton hit a six but was dismissed soon after, while Suryakumar Yadav also fell following a brief cameo. Rohit Sharma was trapped lbw by Sandeep Sharma, leaving Mumbai well behind the required rate.

Compared to Rajasthan’s 59 for 0 in the powerplay, Mumbai managed only 29 for 3, putting them under immediate pressure.

Royals Maintain Grip with Ball

As the pitch began to slow, Rajasthan’s bowlers adjusted effectively, using variations to restrict scoring. Ravi Bishnoi struck twice in his opening over, dismissing Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma to leave Mumbai at 46 for 5 after five overs.

A brief counterattack came through Sherfane Rutherford and Naman Dhir, who added 47 runs in 17 balls. However, Rutherford’s dismissal, caught by Sandeep Sharma at short third, ended any hopes of a comeback.

Rajasthan’s attack, led by Burger, Sandeep, and Archer, closed out the innings efficiently to seal a comprehensive win.
