Sourav Ganguly Makes Stunning Greg Chappell Revelation

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has shared a surprising story about his former coach Greg Chappell that has caught the attention of cricket fans. Despite their famous fallout during their time with the Indian team, Ganguly revealed that Chappell once wanted to work with him again.

The latest Sourav Ganguly – Greg Chappell email story came during Ganguly’s appearance on the AddaGB podcast. He revealed that Greg Chappell had sent him an email in 2011 expressing his interest in becoming the coach of Kolkata Knight Riders while Ganguly remained the team’s captain.

The revelation has once again brought the Greg Chappell coaching controversy back into the spotlight.

The Email That Left Ganguly Surprised

Recalling the moment, Ganguly said he was at his home in England when he checked his inbox one morning. He could hardly believe what he was seeing.

“I was checking my mail one morning at my home in England. I saw his mail and thought, ‘Am I still sleeping?’ Then I checked it properly, checked the name, and checked the ID, because a lot of fake emails come. He wanted to coach KKR. With me as captain!”

The former India skipper admitted that he was shocked because of everything that had happened between the two during Chappell’s time as India’s head coach.

As Ganguly reveals KKR story, he also joked that people would have thought he was making a huge mistake if he had accepted the proposal.

“(People) must be thinking that Dada couldn’t be that big of a fool. He might have been a fool once, but surely, he couldn’t be fooled again.”

Ganguly Chose Not to Reply

Ganguly made it clear that he ignored the email completely. He also explained why he never responded to Chappell’s message.

“I don’t answer him. I don’t answer people who are not honest,” Ganguly said.

His comments show that the differences between the two cricket figures were never fully resolved, even years after their time together with the Indian team.

Why the Reunion Never Took Place

Even if Ganguly had considered the offer, the reunion would never have happened. Before the 2011 Indian Premier League season, Kolkata Knight Riders rebuilt their squad ahead of the mega auction. The franchise decided not to retain or buy back Ganguly.

KKR later appointed Gautam Gambhir as captain, while Ganguly joined Pune Warriors India during the same season.

This unexpected twist makes the Sourav Ganguly – Greg Chappell email story even more interesting for cricket fans.

The Famous Ganguly Chappell Rift

The Greg Chappell coaching controversy remains one of the biggest chapters in Indian cricket history. Ironically, Ganguly had supported Chappell’s appointment as India’s head coach in 2005.

However, their relationship quickly turned sour during India’s tour of Zimbabwe. Chappell reportedly wanted Ganguly to step down as captain because of his batting form. Matters became worse after Chappell’s email to the BCCI was leaked, which described Ganguly as mentally and physically unfit to lead the team.

Ganguly was removed as captain and later dropped from the Indian side before making a memorable comeback in 2006.

Now, as Ganguly reveals KKR story, fans have learned about another surprising chapter in one of cricket’s notorious rivalries. Even after years of public disagreements, Greg Chappell had once hoped to coach Ganguly again at KKR, but the reunion never became reality.
