Shubman Gill narrowly missed the opportunity to reclaim the Orange Cap lead, while Kagiso Rabada made significant progress in the Purple Cap standings following Mumbai Indians’ commanding victory over Gujarat Titans on Monday.
Tilak Varma became the third centurion of IPL 2026, joining Sanju Samson and Quinton de Kock in reaching three figures this season. Despite his milestone, Varma remains well outside the top of the Orange Cap table with 144 runs, compared to the current leader’s tally of 283.
Orange Cap Standings
There was no reshuffle among the top ten run-scorers, but Gill inched closer to the summit with his 14 off 13 balls. Heinrich Klaasen of Sunrisers Hyderabad continues to lead the chart with 283 runs, while Gill sits second with 265 after missing a chance to go back to the top.
Virat Kohli of Royal Challengers Bengaluru occupies third place, followed by Rajasthan Royals’ Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and RCB skipper Rajat Patidar.
The rest of the top ten includes Punjab Kings’ Cooper Connolly and Rajasthan Royals’ Yashasvi Jaiswal, both level on 223 runs. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Ishan Kishan follows, alongside PBKS pair Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh.
Purple Cap Race Tightens
In the bowling charts, Prasidh Krishna of Gujarat Titans has climbed to second place with 12 wickets, moving ahead of Lucknow Super Giants’ Prince Yadav, who had briefly entered the top three.
Krishna now trails Chennai Super Kings’ Anshul Kamboj by just one wicket in the race for the Purple Cap.
Meanwhile, Kagiso Rabada strengthened his position with figures of 3 for 33 against Mumbai Indians, taking his tally into double digits. He joins Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rajasthan Royals’ Ravi Bishnoi, with all three bowlers sitting on ten wickets each.
As the tournament progresses, both leaderboards remain tightly contested, with small margins continuing to separate the top performers.
