Delhi Capitals ended Kolkata Knight Riders’ playoff hopes with a commanding 40-run victory, successfully defending a total of 203 for 5 in their IPL 2026 clash at Eden Gardens. The result officially eliminated KKR from the tournament as DC finished strongly.

KL Rahul led Delhi’s batting effort with a quickfire 60 off 30 balls, while Ajinkya Rahane top-scored for KKR with 63 from 39 deliveries in a chase that lost momentum midway.

Heartbreak for KKR

Kolkata Knight Riders knew their playoff hopes were over just 3.4 overs into the first innings, after Rajasthan Royals completed a 30-run win over Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium.

Although KKR did not drop their intensity on the field, head coach Abhishek Nayar looked visibly disappointed during an interview in the middle of the match.

“We didn’t play our best cricket in the initial matches. I am proud of the boys and how they came back in the second half. We knew it wasn’t in our hands, and we will continue to control the controllables,” Nayar told the host broadcaster.

Despite the result in the RR match, KKR’s bowlers produced a respectable effort to hold Delhi Capitals to 203 on a surface that appeared excellent for batting at Eden Gardens.

Rahul Anchors Delhi Capitals

KL Rahul once again played a central role in DC’s innings, finishing the season with 593 runs at a strike rate of 174.41. His 30-ball 60 provided the foundation for a competitive total, with his aggressive strokeplay setting the tone early on.

He was eventually dismissed by Anukul Roy, but his contribution ensured Delhi crossed the 200-run mark.

Rahane Leads KKR’s Response

In the chase, Ajinkya Rahane provided resistance with a well-made 63 from 39 balls. KKR reached 100 within the first 10 overs, keeping themselves in contention before the middle-order collapse shifted the game decisively.

Kuldeep Turns the Match

Kuldeep Yadav played a key role in breaking KKR’s momentum. After a quiet season, the left-arm wrist-spinner delivered a crucial spell, including a double-wicket over that changed the course of the match.

He first dismissed Cameron Green and later removed Rahane and Rinku Singh in quick succession, triggering a collapse that ended KKR’s hopes. Kuldeep nearly claimed a hat-trick, but Abhishek Porel dropped a chance.

Lungi Ngidi had earlier made inroads by dismissing Finn Allen and Manish Pandey, setting up the middle overs for Kuldeep to take control.

Off-Field Highlights at Eden Gardens

During the mid-innings interval, the Cricket Association of Bengal hosted a laser show celebrating the history of Eden Gardens. The presentation featured iconic moments such as the 2001 Test match and Carlos Brathwaite’s four sixes in the T20 World Cup, along with tributes to Sourav Ganguly, Jhulan Goswami and Jagmohan Dalmiya.

End of the Road for KKR

With the defeat, Kolkata Knight Riders’ IPL 2026 campaign came to an end despite a stronger second half of the season. Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, finished with a comprehensive win, closing their campaign on a high note.
