Punjab Kings produced a commanding batting display to defeat Lucknow Super Giants by 54 runs, posting the highest total of IPL 2026 in the process.

After being asked to set a target for the first time this season, PBKS responded emphatically on a fresh New Chandigarh surface, piling up 254 for 7 before restricting LSG to 200 for 5. The result extended Punjab’s unbeaten run to six matches. LSG slumped to a third successive defeat and currently are at No. 8 – with only Kolkata Knight Riders who have just secured their first win of the season and Mumbai Indians who face Gujarat Titans on Monday – behind them.

Early Chances Missed by LSG

Lucknow made a strong start with the ball as Mohammed Shami dismissed Prabhsimran Singh for a golden duck in the opening over. Mohsin Khan then had two opportunities to remove Cooper Connolly in his next over, but both chances went unclaimed, allowing PBKS to recover quickly.

Arya Sets the Tone

Priyansh Arya took full advantage of the reprieve, launching a fierce counterattack during the powerplay. He raced to 40 off 13 balls and reached his half-century in just 19 deliveries, dominating particularly against short-pitched bowling with multiple sixes to the leg side. His aggressive approach set the platform for a massive total, as PBKS surged ahead with rapid scoring in the early overs.

Connolly Accelerates in Middle Overs

Connolly initially built his innings steadily before shifting gears. He targeted Shami with a pair of sixes and later produced a standout sequence against Aiden Markram, hitting three consecutive sixes in an over that yielded 32 runs.

By the 13th over, PBKS had already struck 16 sixes, with Arya and Connolly contributing the bulk of the damage during their 182-run partnership for the second wicket.

LSG Briefly Fight Back

Lucknow found some respite in the middle overs, with Prince Yadav dismissing Connolly to end the massive stand. M Siddharth then removed Arya shortly after, and Mohsin Khan picked up another wicket as PBKS slowed briefly.

However, a late surge led by Marcus Stoinis ensured Punjab regained momentum, adding 40 runs in the final three overs to push the total beyond 250.

LSG Fall Short in Chase

In reply, LSG never truly threatened the target despite a steady scoring phase in the powerplay. Ayush Badoni provided early impetus, but his dismissal for 35 slowed progress.

Rishabh Pant (43), Aiden Markram (42*), and Mitchell Marsh (40) made useful contributions, but the required rate kept climbing. Regular wickets, including those of Marsh and Pant, dented the chase further as LSG slipped to 128 for 4 in the 13th over.

Nicholas Pooran’s dismissal added to their troubles, and although Markram struck a few late boundaries, the margin of defeat remained significant.

Punjab Extend Dominant Run

Punjab Kings’ all-round performance highlighted their strength with both bat and ball. Their 21 sixes in the innings — the most in a single innings this season — underlined their aggressive approach, while their bowlers maintained control to close out another comprehensive win.
