Australia Women excel in their preparations for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 with a six-wicket victory over West Indies Women in Cardiff. Chasing a target of 132, Australia reached the total with five overs to spare thanks to a superb unbeaten innings from Georgia Voll.

While the result was encouraging for Australia, the match was overshadowed by an injury concern for West Indies all-rounder Chinelle Henry, who was stretchered off the field after suffering an awkward fall while attempting a catch.

West Indies Collapse After Promising Position

After being asked to bat, West Indies looked set for a competitive total. Deandra Dottin led the batting effort with a fluent 46, while Jahzara Claxton contributed to a valuable 45-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

At 109/4 in the 16th over, West Indies appeared well placed to push beyond 150. However, Australia’s bowlers responded brilliantly during the closing stages, triggering a dramatic collapse.

The Caribbean side lost six wickets for just 22 runs and were eventually bowled out for 131.

Australia’s bowling unit shared the workload effectively, with seven bowlers claiming at least one wicket. Ashleigh Gardner and Lucy Hamilton were the most successful bowlers, finishing with identical figures of 2/17 and 2/19 respectively.

The disciplined bowling performance ensured West Indies were restricted to a below-par total despite their strong position earlier in the innings.

Georgia Voll Anchors Comfortable Chase

Australia’s chase was dominated by Georgia Voll, who produced another impressive display at the top of the order.

Opening alongside Beth Mooney, Voll played with confidence from the outset and remained unbeaten on 77 from 48 deliveries. Her innings included ten boundaries and two sixes as she controlled the chase from start to finish.

Mooney provided early momentum with a rapid 34 from just 18 balls before retiring out after helping Australia establish a strong 48-run opening partnership.

Although wickets fell around Voll during the middle overs, the target never appeared challenging. Australia maintained control throughout the chase and comfortably reached 132/4.

Voll sealed victory in style, striking 4, 6, and 4 from consecutive deliveries off Jannillea Glasgow to complete the chase.

Injury Concern for West Indies

The biggest concern for West Indies came during Australia’s innings when Chinelle Henry suffered an injury while fielding.

Attempting a catch at long-on, Henry slipped awkwardly and required medical attention before being stretchered from the field. The extent of the injury remains unclear.

The all-rounder is considered one of West Indies’ most important players due to her power hitting, wicket-taking ability, and athletic fielding. Any prolonged absence would be a major setback ahead of their World Cup opener against New Zealand.

Australia Manage Phoebe Litchfield Carefully

Australia were once again without Phoebe Litchfield, who missed the match after reporting quad awareness.

Head coach Shelley Nitschke confirmed that the decision was precautionary, with the team taking a conservative approach before the tournament begins.

Australia remain optimistic that Litchfield will be available for their opening World Cup fixture.

Positive Signs for Australia

The victory offered several encouraging signs for Australia. Georgia Voll continued her outstanding form, the bowling attack shared wickets effectively, and the team once again displayed the depth that has made them one of the favourites for the tournament.

For West Indies, the late batting collapse and the uncertainty surrounding Chinelle Henry’s fitness will be concerns heading into their opening match. However, Dottin’s form with the bat provided one positive takeaway from the warm-up fixture.

With the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup fast approaching, both teams will now shift their focus toward the main tournament and the challenges that lie ahead.
