India cricketer Suryakumar Yadav has entered a new chapter in his personal life, as he and his wife Devisha Shetty have welcomed a baby girl. The news comes during IPL 2026, a period where the Mumbai Indians batter has also been under scrutiny for his performances on the field.

Suryakumar did not travel with the Mumbai Indians squad to Raipur for their fixture against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 10. While no official reason was initially confirmed, reports suggested he stayed back to be with his wife as they awaited the birth of their child.

The couple later shared the news in a joint Instagram post with an adorable image of their newborn holding their fingers. They captioned the announcement: “With giggles, bows, and dreams to unfurl – we welcome our baby girl.” The post quickly drew congratulatory messages from fans and members of the cricketing community, with Mumbai Indians also responding: “Congratulations Surya & Devisha!”

Devisha Shetty: A Private Yet Influential Presence

Devisha Shetty, who prefers to maintain a low profile, comes from a South Indian background. She completed her schooling at Bombay Scottish School before pursuing higher education at R.A. Podar College of Commerce and Economics. Alongside her academic journey, she is trained in classical dance and works as a dance coach in Mumbai.

The couple reportedly met during their college years in 2012 and later married in 2016 in a traditional South Indian ceremony. Their journey from college companions to life partners has now entered a new phase with the arrival of their daughter.

A Key Role Behind the Scenes

Earlier in March 2026, Suryakumar had spoken about his wife’s influence on his cricketing career. Reflecting on a pivotal moment, he credited her for pushing him to take his ambitions seriously.

“She told me that all those who played with you in age group, a lot of them are now playing for India, what do you have in mind? I said: ‘Mujhe bhi India khelna hai (I want to play for India too)’. ‘Kaise kheloge’ (how do you plan to do it?), she asked,” Suryakumar revealed during a podcast interview.

That question, asked in 2018, became a turning point. It led him to adopt a more disciplined approach, ultimately earning him his India debut three years later at the age of 30. He also became the first Indian batter to hit a six off his very first ball in T20I cricket.

New Beginnings

While IPL 2026 continues, the milestone in his personal life marks a significant moment for Suryakumar Yadav. As he balances professional commitments and fatherhood, the arrival of his daughter adds a new dimension to his journey both on and off the field.
