The second T20I between Bangladesh and New Zealand in Chattogram was abandoned without a ball being bowled after persistent rain and thunderstorms made play impossible.

Both teams had arrived at the venue on Wednesday afternoon, with some players taking part in indoor net sessions. However, adverse weather conditions prevented any outdoor activity, and the match could not proceed.

Match Called Off Before Toss

The fixture was officially called off at 4:15pm local time, with umpires making the decision an hour before the designated cut-off time. The toss did not take place, and neither team stepped onto the outfield due to continuous rain.

As a result, Bangladesh retain a 1-0 lead in the three-match series following their win in the opening T20I.

Series Moves to Dhaka

The teams are scheduled to travel to Dhaka on Thursday ahead of the third and final T20I on May 2. Weather forecasts suggest similar conditions, with rain and thunderstorms expected in the coming days.

Recap of First T20I

Bangladesh had taken the lead in the series with a six-wicket victory in the first match in Chattogram on April 27.

New Zealand posted 182 for 6 after batting first, with half-centuries from Katene Clarke and Dane Cleaver. Bangladesh faced early pressure at 77 for 3 in ten overs, but a combined effort from Towhid Hridoy, Shamim Hossain, and Parvez Hossain Emon guided them to the target with two overs remaining.

The result marked Bangladesh’s highest successful T20I chase at home.

Tight Turnaround Ahead

Following the conclusion of the New Zealand series, several Bangladesh players are set to transition quickly into the upcoming Test series against Pakistan, which begins on May 8.
