Shubman Gill Overtakes Kohli to Lead IPL 2026 Orange Cap Race

Shubman Gill has moved to the top of the IPL 2026 Orange Cap standings following Gujarat Titans’ win over Kolkata Knight Riders in Ahmedabad that reshaped the run-scoring leaderboard and the Purple Cap race.

Gill surged to the top after scoring 86 off 50 balls, earning the Player-of-the-Match award as Gujarat Titans chased down 181 with two balls remaining. His latest innings took his tally to 251 runs for the season, placing him 23 runs ahead of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Virat Kohli.

The Gujarat Titans skipper has now registered three consecutive half-centuries, with scores of 39, 70, 56, and 86. His strike rate stands at 154.93, similar to the other top batters on the list. Kohli, currently second, has a strike rate of 158.33, while Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Heinrich Klaasen sits third with a strike rate of 142.67.

Rajat Patidar of RCB occupies fourth place with 222 runs at an impressive strike rate of 213.46, followed by SRH’s Ishan Kishan, who has scored 213 runs at 190.17.

Several other players have crossed the 200-run mark, including:

Purple Cap Leaderboard

On the bowling charts, Gujarat Titans’ Prasidh Krishna has taken sole control at the top with 11 wickets from five matches, following his 1/32 performance against KKR.

Chennai Super Kings’ Anshul Kamboj remains close behind with 10 wickets. Lucknow Super Giants’ Prince Yadav and Rajasthan Royals’ Ravi Bishnoi are next with nine wickets each.

A group of five bowlers follow with seven wickets apiece:

  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar (RCB)
  • Krunal Pandya (RCB)
  • Vaibhav Arora (KKR)
  • Kagiso Rabada (GT), who joined the group after taking three wickets in the latest match

Gill’s consistency and match-winning contribution have propelled him ahead in the Orange Cap race, while Prasidh Krishna’s steady wicket-taking form has given him a clear edge in the Purple Cap standings.
