Chennai Super Kings registered their first victory of IPL 2026 with a 23-run win over Delhi Capitals in Chennai, powered by a standout all-round performance led by Jamie Overton’s decisive spell.

Defending a total of 212, Overton played a pivotal role with the ball, finishing with four wickets while conceding just 18 runs in his four overs. His breakthroughs came at key moments, halting Delhi’s progress and shifting momentum firmly in CSK’s favour.

Overton’s spell turns the game

Overton began his impact by dismissing Sameer Rizvi for 6, followed by the wicket of David Miller, who scored 17. He then accounted for debutant Aquib Nabi (4), who was caught at extra cover by Akeal Hosein.

His most crucial breakthrough came when he removed Tristan Stubbs for 60, cutting short a potentially match-defining innings. Overton’s disciplined spell ensured Delhi Capitals never fully recovered in the chase.

Samson leads the charge with the bat

Earlier, CSK’s innings was anchored by Sanju Samson, who remained unbeaten on 115 off 56 balls. His innings included 15 boundaries and four sixes, striking at 205.35 to lead the batting effort.

Ayush Mhatre contributed 59 before retiring out, while Shivam Dube added an unbeaten 20 to help CSK post a commanding total of 212.

Supporting contributions seal the win

CSK’s bowling unit complemented Overton’s efforts, with Anshul Kamboj picking up three wickets. Gurjapneet Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, and Noor Ahmad also contributed with one wicket each to maintain pressure throughout the innings.

The victory marked CSK’s first of the season, setting the tone for their upcoming fixture against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 14 in Chennai.
