South Africa delivered a commanding all-round performance to secure an eight-wicket victory over India in the second T20I in Durban, taking a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. Three-wicket hauls from Chloe Tryon and Tumi Sekhukhune helped restrict India to 147, before half-centuries from Laura Wolvaardt and Sune Luus guided the hosts to the target in just 17.1 overs.

South Africa’s bowlers laid the foundation with disciplined efforts, led by Tryon and Sekhukhune, who picked up three wickets each to keep India’s total in check at 147. Their control ensured India were unable to build sustained momentum through the innings.

Wolvaardt and Luus Dominate the Chase

In reply, South Africa effectively took control of the game early through a dominant opening partnership between captain Laura Wolvaardt and Sune Luus. The duo added 106 runs in just 73 deliveries, setting the tone for a straightforward chase.

The boundaries flowed consistently, with Luus also clearing the ropes off Shreyanka Patil as South Africa surged to 66/0 in the Powerplay. India relied heavily on spin during this phase, but Wolvaardt and Luus handled the attack comfortably, maintaining a high scoring rate.

Even after the fielding restrictions were lifted, the momentum remained firmly with the hosts. Wolvaardt struck a six and a four off Shree Charani, followed by another boundary off Arundhati Reddy to bring up her half-century off 30 balls.

The partnership crossed the 100-run mark before India finally found a breakthrough, with Wolvaardt holing out to long-on while attempting to loft Shreyanka Patil.

Comfortable Finish Seals the Win

Luus soon reached her own half-century off 41 balls, continuing the dominance at the top. Tazmin Brits then made a positive start, helping South Africa reach 123/1 after 15 overs.

Although Luus eventually fell to Shreyanka Patil while attempting a sweep, the damage had already been done. Brits and Annerie Dercksen completed the chase with ease, ensuring South Africa sealed a comfortable victory with plenty of overs to spare.
