Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Tim David has been fined 25% of his match fee and handed one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his side’s win over Mumbai Indians.
Two incidents of non-compliance
According to the Indian Premier League, David violated Article 2.4, which relates to “disobeying an umpire’s instruction during a match,” on two separate occasions.
The first incident occurred in the 18th over of RCB’s innings when the umpires decided to change the ball. David reportedly held onto the ball and inspected it instead of returning it promptly, despite repeated instructions from the on-field officials.
Television footage showed him juggling the ball briefly, prompting intervention from umpires Kannur Swaroopanand and Virender Sharma, who eventually retrieved it.
The second incident came shortly after, in the 20th over, when David again delayed returning the ball to the umpires, leading to a repeat breach of the same regulation.
This marked his first offence of the season, and he accepted the match referee’s sanction without contest.
Hardik Pandya fined for slow over-rate
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya was fined INR 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during the same match.
As per IPL regulations, this was Mumbai’s first over-rate offence of the season, resulting in a standard penalty for the captain.
The incident highlights the IPL’s continued emphasis on maintaining discipline and adherence to on-field protocols, especially in high-profile matches.
With stricter enforcement of match regulations and increasing scrutiny on player conduct, even minor breaches are being addressed promptly to ensure smooth match operations.
