RawalPindiz captain Mohammad Rizwan remains optimistic about a turnaround as the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 moves to Karachi, following his side’s seven-wicket defeat to Multan Sultans at the Gaddafi Stadium on Monday.

The Pindiz, competing in their debut PSL season, have now lost all four of their opening matches. Their latest defeat has further dented their chances of reaching the playoffs, with only the top four teams progressing beyond the league stage.

Currently placed seventh in the standings, they sit just above fellow newcomers Hyderabad Kingsmen due to a slightly better net run rate of -1.625. With their campaign under pressure, the side is in urgent need of a change in fortunes.

Their next fixture is scheduled for April 10 against last season’s runners-up Quetta Gladiators at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi, where they will play the remainder of their league-stage matches. Rizwan expressed hope that the shift in venue could provide the reset his team needs.

“We definitely need a fresh start as we head to Karachi. We’ll be looking to make some tactical adjustments based on the conditions there, and hopefully, our luck starts to turn as well,” Rizwan said.

Tactical Adjustments in Focus

Rizwan also acknowledged the complexities involved in making changes to the playing combination, particularly in franchise cricket where team balance is crucial.

“In franchise cricket, making even a single change often necessitates a couple more to maintain the right balance, especially with the requirements for overseas players. However, whenever you step onto the field, the goal is always to go out with a balanced side,” he added.

Toss and Conditions a Key Factor

Reflecting on the team’s struggles so far, Rizwan pointed to external factors, particularly the toss, as playing a significant role in recent outcomes.

“There are many factors that simply aren’t in your control—the toss being a major one,” Rizwan stated.

“It has been a significant factor in our last three games; early on, the ball grips a tad, which often causes us to miss out on that crucial 10 to 20-run margin, and ultimately, that affects the final result,” he concluded.

With the tournament entering a crucial phase, Pindiz will look to reset their campaign in Karachi and keep their playoff hopes alive.
