Australia secured a 90-run victory over West Indies in the second ODI in St Kitts, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. Beth Mooney’s top score and a dominant display from the spin attack proved decisive as the visitors continued their strong run on tour.

Georgia Wareham delivered another impactful all-round performance, earning her second player-of-the-match award of the series.

Mooney Anchors Australia’s Innings

After winning the toss, Australia posted 269 for 7, with Mooney leading the scoring with 65. Phoebe Litchfield contributed 46, while the innings recovered from an early setback.

At 82 for 4 in the 16th over, Australia were under pressure, with West Indies showing intent against the top-ranked side. Ashmini Munisar triggered the collapse with two wickets in consecutive deliveries, dismissing Georgia Voll and Ellyse Perry, the latter registering just her third golden duck in 166 ODIs.

Mooney and stand-in captain Tahlia McGrath steadied the innings with a 58-run partnership. Wareham then added a valuable 39 from No. 7 to help Australia reach a competitive total.

Spin Duo Triggers West Indies Collapse

West Indies began their chase positively, reaching 92 for 1 after 23 overs, with Hayley Matthews leading the way. However, her dismissal sparked a dramatic collapse.

Matthews, who had been dropped on 44 by Alana King, added just one more run before falling, with Megan Schutt taking the catch in the same over bowled by McGrath.

Wareham then struck in the following over, dismissing Stafanie Taylor before removing Deandra Dottin for a duck. Gardner also made key contributions, including a caught-and-bowled dismissal of Qiana Joseph, as part of her three wickets.

The hosts lost 8 wickets for 36 runs, with Wareham finishing with 3 for 29 and Gardner returning 3 for 34.

Late Resistance but Too Little, Too Late

With the result largely decided, Afy Fletcher and Karishma Ramharack added 49 runs for the final wicket to provide some resistance.

The partnership was eventually broken by McGrath when Ramharack was caught by Voll, bringing the innings to a close at 179.

Australia’s win follows their clean sweep in the three-match T20I series, putting them in position to complete a dominant tour. The teams will meet again in the final ODI on Thursday (Friday AEDT), where Australia will look to secure a sixth consecutive win on the tour.
