Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka produced one of the greatest finishes in T20 cricket history during Major League Cricket 2026. The Dasun Shanaka double hat-trick helped the Seattle Orcas pull off an incredible win over the Texas Super Kings in Pomona, California, while also matching the famous Lasith Malinga T20 record of taking four wickets in four consecutive balls.
The remarkable spell has instantly become one of the biggest MLC 2026 records and added another chapter to the list of rare T20 Records.
Dasun Shanaka Double Hat-Trick Turns the Match Around
Seattle Orcas were defending a modest total of 121 and looked set for defeat. Texas Super Kings needed only 15 runs from the final over with plenty of batting still to come.
The over started badly for Seattle. Shubham Ranjane struck a boundary off the first ball before taking a single on the second delivery, leaving Texas needing just 10 runs from the final four balls.
What followed was simply extraordinary.
Shanaka bowled Donovan Ferreira with a clever leg cutter to begin the collapse. On the very next ball, Calvin Savage mistimed a slower delivery straight to Shimron Hetmyer at long-on.
The pressure kept building as Adam Milne edged behind to wicketkeeper Tim Seifert, giving Shanaka a hat-trick.
He was not done yet. On the final ball, Amshi de Silva attempted a big hit but found Hetmyer, who completed a brilliant diving catch. The fourth wicket in four balls completed the unforgettable Dasun Shanaka double hat-trick, sealing a dramatic nine-run victory for the Orcas.
Shanaka finished with outstanding figures of 4 for 26 from his four overs.
Matching the Lasith Malinga T20 Record
The achievement puts Shanaka alongside Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga in one of cricket’s most exclusive clubs.
The Lasith Malinga T20 record includes a four wickets in four balls spell against New Zealand in a T20 International in 2019. Malinga also achieved the feat in One Day Internationals during the 2007 World Cup against South Africa, making him the only bowler to do it twice in international cricket.
Interestingly, Tim Seifert, who caught Shanaka’s hat-trick ball behind the stumps, was also part of the New Zealand team when Malinga created history in 2019.
One of the Rare T20 Records
Taking four wickets in four consecutive deliveries remains one of the most rare T20 records in the game.
Only a handful of bowlers have managed the feat in T20 cricket. Rashid Khan, Curtis Campher, Jason Holder, Andre Russell and Abhimanyu Mithun are among the names on that elite list. Shanaka has now added his name to that distinguished group with his memorable performance.
A Landmark Among MLC 2026 Records
The spell is also one of the standout MLC 2026 records. It is the first ever double hat-trick in Major League Cricket history and could prove crucial in the playoff race.
The win gave Seattle Orcas their fourth victory in eight matches and lifted them to second place in the standings ahead of important fixtures against MI New York and San Francisco Unicorns.
For Shanaka, it was a spell that will be remembered for years. His incredible final over not only rescued a match that seemed lost but also secured his place among the greatest moments in T20 cricket history.
