The International Cricket Council has confirmed a record prize pool of US$8.76 million for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, set to be held in England from June to July. The total marks a 10% increase from the $7.95 million awarded in the 2024 edition, driven largely by the expansion of the tournament from 10 to 12 teams and the rise in group-stage matches from 20 to 30.

The champions will receive $2.34 million, unchanged from the previous edition, while the runners-up will again earn $1.17 million. Losing semi-finalists will take home $675,000 each, and every group-stage win will be worth $31,154, consistent with the 2024 structure.

Prize Structure and Distribution Changes

Despite the overall increase, teams finishing outside the knockout stages could earn less than in the previous edition due to the removal of positional prize money. The guaranteed participation payment has risen from $112,500 to $247,500, but lower-ranked teams may effectively receive similar totals as before.

In 2024, the ninth and 10th-placed teams received $112,500 in participation fees plus $135,000 in positional rewards, matching this year’s minimum of $247,500. Teams finishing between fifth and eighth earned a combined $382,500, including participation and positional payments. In contrast, teams missing out on the knockouts in 2026 will receive the base $247,500 plus $31,154 per group-stage win, with one additional group match compared to 2024.

Knockout Teams Benefit Most

The increase in guaranteed participation money benefits teams reaching the knockout stages. A losing semi-finalist will now earn at least $922,500, compared to $787,500 in 2024. The runners-up will receive a minimum of $1,417,500, up from $1,282,500, while the champions are set to earn at least $2,587,500, compared to $2,452,500 previously.

Continued Growth in Women’s Cricket

The 2024 edition, won by New Zealand Women in the UAE, had already marked a significant jump in prize money, rising from $2.45 million in 2023 to $7.95 million. This increase followed the ICC’s 2023 decision to align prize money for equivalent men’s and women’s tournaments.

For comparison, India Men’s Cricket Team received $2.45 million for winning the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, the same amount awarded in 2024. The difference in overall earnings between the men’s and women’s events is attributed to the number of matches played.

Meanwhile, Harmanpreet Kaur’s India side, who won the Women’s ODI World Cup last year, earned a total prize of $6.58 million.

Tournament Schedule

The Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 will begin on June 12, with England Women’s Cricket Team facing Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket Team at Edgbaston. The final is scheduled for July 5 at Lord’s.
