Bangladesh’s Historic Win Shakes Up WTC 2025–27 Standings

Bangladesh registered a landmark victory over Pakistan national cricket team, winning the first Test by 104 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium to secure their maiden Test win against Pakistan on home soil.

The result brought notable changes to the ICC World Test Championship 2025–27 standings, with Bangladesh climbing to sixth place while Pakistan slipped to seventh after previously sitting above India in fifth.

Bangladesh now have one win, one defeat and one draw from three matches, earning 16 points with a win percentage of 44.44. Pakistan, meanwhile, have one win and two defeats from three games, collecting 12 points with a win percentage of 33.33.

At the top, Australia continue to lead the table with seven wins and one loss from eight matches, amassing 84 points and a win percentage of 87.50. New Zealand sit second with two wins and one draw (28 points, 77.78%), while defending champions South Africa occupy third with three wins from four matches (36 points, 75%). Sri Lanka are placed fourth with one win and one draw, earning 16 points at 66.67%.

Rana’s Five-For Seals the Win

Chasing 268, Pakistan resumed the final session at 116 for 3 but were bowled out for 163 in 52.5 overs. Nahid Rana starred with a match-winning spell of 5 for 40.

Abdullah Fazal top-scored with 66 off 113 balls, including 11 boundaries. Salman Ali Agha added 26, while Saud Shakeel, Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan managed 15 each.

Support came from Taijul Islam and Taskin Ahmed, who picked up two wickets each, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz chipped in with one.

Shanto Leads with the Bat Again

Earlier, Bangladesh declared their second innings at 240 for 9 after resuming the day at 152 for 3, setting Pakistan a target of 268.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto led from the front with 87 off 150 balls, while Mominul Haque contributed a steady 56. Mehidy Hasan Miraz (24) and Mushfiqur Rahim (22) added useful runs.

First-Innings Contributions Set the Platform

Bangladesh had earlier posted 413 in their first innings after opting to bat. Mominul Haque (91), Shanto (101) and Mushfiqur Rahim (71) were the key contributors, while Litton Das (33) and Taskin Ahmed (28) added valuable lower-order runs.

For Pakistan, Mohammad Abbas impressed with 5 for 92, while Shaheen Shah Afridi took three wickets. Hasan Ali and Noman Ali claimed one each.

Pakistan responded with 386, conceding a narrow 27-run first-innings deficit. Debutant Azan Awais scored 103, while Abdullah Fazal (60), Salman Ali Agha (58) and Mohammad Rizwan (59) made important contributions.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz starred with 5 for 102, while Taskin Ahmed and Taijul Islam took two wickets apiece.
