Perry Anchors Australia’s Highest Total of the Tournament
Australia continued their dominant march through the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 with a 113-run victory over Pakistan at Headingley, securing their fourth consecutive win of the tournament.
After being sent in to bat, Australia recovered from the loss of Beth Mooney off the very first ball to post an imposing 199/7, thanks largely to a superb innings from Ellyse Perry. The experienced all-rounder struck 71 from 48 deliveries, registering her maiden half-century in Women’s T20 World Cup history.
Perry shared a match-defining 100-run partnership for the second wicket with Georgia Voll, who provided excellent support as Australia took complete control of the innings after the early setback.
Pakistan Strike Early Before Australia Take Charge
Pakistan enjoyed the perfect start when Gull Feroza produced a stunning one-handed catch at slip to dismiss Beth Mooney from the opening delivery of the match.
Sadia Iqbal tempted Mooney into an outside edge, and Feroza completed a spectacular diving catch to briefly lift Pakistan’s hopes.
However, Australia quickly shifted the momentum. Perry and Voll attacked from the outset, punishing anything loose as Fatima Sana and Diana Baig struggled to contain the scoring. Australia raced to 64/1 inside the powerplay, their best start of the tournament.
Nashra Sandhu briefly brought Pakistan back into the contest by removing Voll and Ashleigh Gardner in the same over, while Rameen Shamim also chipped in with important wickets. Perry’s impressive innings eventually ended after Pakistan successfully reviewed a catch behind off Fatima Sana’s bowling.
Perry Completes an Outstanding All-Round Performance
Perry’s contribution extended well beyond her batting.
Introduced into the attack after Pakistan had already lost four wickets, she struck with the very first ball of her spell when Muneeba Ali picked out the fielder at midwicket. She then added the wicket of Aliya Riaz later in the same over to finish with outstanding figures of 2/9.
The performance highlighted Perry’s value as one of the game’s premier all-rounders, combining a match-winning innings with crucial breakthroughs.
Her 71 also represented the first T20 World Cup fifty of her illustrious career, surpassing her previous best tournament score of 42 against New Zealand in 2016.
Australia’s Bowlers Dominate Pakistan
Pakistan never recovered after a promising start to the chase.
Although they reached 50/3 during the powerplay, wickets continued to fall at regular intervals as Australia’s disciplined attack maintained complete control.
Sophie Molineux delivered another economical spell to claim 2/6, while Annabel Sutherland matched those figures with 2/12. Kim Garth, Lucy Hamilton and Georgia Voll also played important supporting roles as Australia dismantled Pakistan’s batting order.
Pakistan were eventually bowled out for just 86, handing Australia a massive net run-rate boost with more than six overs remaining.
Run-Out Errors Hurt Pakistan
Pakistan’s innings was further damaged by a series of costly run-outs.
Confusion between the batters resulted in multiple dismissals, preventing the visitors from building any meaningful partnerships. Gull Feroza, Ayesha Zafar and Rameen Shamim all fell victim to poor running between the wickets, with Australia’s sharp fielding capitalising on every opportunity.
Those avoidable mistakes only increased the pressure as Australia’s bowlers tightened their grip on the contest.
Mooney Shows Courage Behind the Stumps
One of the most remarkable moments of the match came during Australia’s fielding innings.
Despite suffering a dislocated finger while attempting to stop a wide delivery, Beth Mooney continued keeping wicket after receiving treatment on the field. The finger required realignment twice during the innings before being heavily strapped.
Remarkably, Mooney remained behind the stumps throughout Pakistan’s chase and played a role in five dismissals, underlining her determination and commitment to the team.
Australia’s comprehensive victory strengthened their position at the top of the group standings, while Pakistan were left needing positive results in their remaining matches to keep their semi-final hopes alive.
