Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) delivered a commanding performance to defeat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by seven wickets. They produced a strong chase with 20 balls to spare in a contest driven by Mitchell Marsh’s explosive innings.

The result dents CSK’s playoff aspirations as they slipped from fifth to sixth on the points table, with Rajasthan Royals moving ahead on net run rate despite playing one game fewer.

Marsh’s Powerplay Blitz

Chasing a competitive 188 on a tricky Ekana surface, Marsh took control early, smashing 90 off just 38 balls in a brutal display of power hitting. He dominated the powerplay, scoring 56 of LSG’s 86 runs in the first six overs and completely shifting the momentum of the game.

His fearless approach saw LSG’s win probability skyrocket, effectively deciding the contest inside the first half of the chase. Though he fell just 10 runs short of a century, the damage had already been done. Nicholas Pooran applied the finishing touches with an unbeaten 32, sealing the win in emphatic fashion.

Akash Singh Shines Against Former Team

Earlier, Akash Singh starred with the ball, delivering career-best IPL figures of 3 for 26 in four overs. Playing his first game of the season, he used hard lengths effectively on a bouncy pitch to trouble CSK’s top order.

His disciplined spell restricted CSK to just 37 for 2 in the powerplay, laying the foundation for LSG’s control in the game.

Kartik Sharma Leads CSK Fightback

CSK’s innings was rebuilt by young Kartik Sharma, who impressed with a fluent 71 off 42 balls. Walking in with his side under pressure at 52 for 3, he counterattacked with a mix of aggressive strokeplay and composure.

He found support from Dewald Brevis (25 off 16), and later from Shivam Dube, who finished strongly with an unbeaten 32 off 16 balls, including a late burst of boundaries.

Despite the recovery, CSK’s total of 187 for 5 proved insufficient against LSG’s batting firepower.

Pant Fined, CSK Miss Key Control Phase

LSG skipper Rishabh Pant was fined INR 12 lakh for a slow over-rate during the match, though it had little impact on the outcome.

CSK struggled to contain runs in the middle overs, especially in the absence of key bowling options, which allowed LSG to maintain control throughout the chase.

Inglis Supports, Pooran Finishes

Josh Inglis played a steady supporting role with 36 off 32 balls, sharing a massive 135-run opening stand with Marsh.

After the openers departed, Pooran ensured there were no late hiccups, smashing four consecutive sixes to wrap up the chase in style.

While LSG secured just their fourth win of the season and remain at the bottom of the table, this victory provides a boost ahead of their next match against Rajasthan Royals on May 19 in Jaipur. For CSK, however, the loss significantly complicates their playoff path, with limited matches remaining to recover ground.
