The second ODI between England and New Zealand was called off due to persistent rain at the County Ground, with no result possible despite multiple attempts to start the match.
England had taken a 1-0 lead in the series after one-wicket victory in Durham, where their last pair successfully chased down New Zealand’s total of 210.
Rain Disrupts Proceedings
Showers began just before the scheduled toss, leading to an initial delay of around two hours. Although conditions briefly improved, allowing the toss to take place, rain soon returned.
New Zealand captain Melie Kerr won the toss and chose to bowl, stating the team preferred to know their target with rain interruptions expected.
However, continued rainfall prevented any play, and the umpires eventually abandoned the match at 4.45pm after extended delays.
Changes to England XI
England had made two changes to their lineup. Sophie Ecclestone returned to the side after missing the opening match, where Tilly Corteen-Coleman made her debut and took two wickets, also sharing a crucial unbroken 10th-wicket partnership with Charlie Dean to seal victory.
Alice Capsey was also set to return after recovering from illness, replacing debutant Jodi Grewcock. Lauren Filer made way as part of the changes.
New Zealand named an unchanged XI for the fixture.
Series Moves to Cardiff
With the second ODI washed out, the series will now be decided in the final match, scheduled to take place in Cardiff on Saturday. The teams will then move on to a three-match T20I series.
