Virat Kohli added another milestone to his record-breaking IPL career during Match 39 of IPL 2026 between Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, becoming the first player in tournament history to reach 9000 runs.

The landmark came in a match dominated by RCB, whose bowlers set up a comfortable victory with a commanding performance against Delhi Capitals.

RCB Bowlers Dismantle DC

Delhi Capitals endured a difficult outing with the bat as they struggled against RCB’s disciplined pace attack. The home side managed only 13 for 6 in the powerplay — the lowest score recorded in that phase in IPL history.

Josh Hazlewood led the bowling effort with four wickets, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar provided strong support with three wickets, maintaining pressure throughout the innings.

DC were unable to recover from the early collapse and were eventually bowled out for 75 in 16.3 overs, narrowly avoiding the lowest total in IPL history.

Kohli Reaches Historic Milestone

Chasing 76, RCB approached the target with control. Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal ensured a steady start, guiding the side to 65 for 1 after six overs.

During the chase, Kohli reached the 9000-run mark in the IPL, becoming the first player to achieve the feat. He required 11 runs before the match to get there and completed the milestone in his 275th IPL appearance, having faced 6732 deliveries.

In IPL 2026, Kohli has been in strong form, scoring 339 runs in eight matches at an average of 56.50 and a strike rate of 159.15.
