The Big Cricket League (BCL), the world’s first Pro-Am Cricket League, has decided to postpone its second season, which was originally scheduled from March 11 to March 22, 2026.
Season 2 had been planned to take place at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Cricket Stadium in Greater Noida. However, according to a BCL release, the tournament will now be staged at a later date due to the evolving geopolitical situation in the Middle East. The uncertainty surrounding international travel and the availability of overseas players prompted the management to delay the competition.
Focus on Ensuring Overseas Player Availability
One of the main factors behind the decision is the league’s aim to guarantee the participation of all confirmed overseas players. By avoiding potential travel disruptions, BCL intends to preserve the competitive quality of the tournament and ensure that fans experience a strong international presence.
The league has built its concept around offering amateur cricketers a chance to share the field with well-known international figures. Maintaining that experience remains central to the league’s vision, and organisers believe that proceeding without overseas participation would undermine that objective.
Post-IPL Window Under Consideration
BCL management is now exploring the possibility of staging Season 2 immediately after the IPL 2026. Hosting the event in that window would allow the league to benefit from strong cricketing interest while also avoiding congestion in the calendar.
According to the organisers, the revised scheduling could also help improve broadcast visibility and strengthen sponsor engagement, creating additional value for teams, partners and audiences.
The league stated that the extra time will also allow for improved preparations, broader fan engagement initiatives and greater international participation, all aimed at enhancing the overall tournament experience.
League Leadership Explains the Decision
Rudra Pratap Singh, Founder & President of BCL, acknowledged that the decision was made after careful consideration.
“The sudden and unfortunate geopolitical developments in the Middle East have created significant uncertainty. The possibility of further escalation and its potential impact on the availability of international players has forced us to take this difficult decision so close to the start of the tournament.
This decision has not been taken lightly. It has been an agonising couple of days for the entire team. However, we believe it is the right decision in the interest of all our stakeholders, especially our amateur players, whose experience of interacting with international legends is central to the BCL vision. We are currently evaluating suitable dates immediately after the IPL 2026 to deliver a high-quality and blockbuster Season 2.”
Puneet Singh, Chief Patron of BCL, also emphasised the importance of maintaining the league’s core concept.
“The vision behind BCL is to build a truly global Pro-Am cricket platform where amateur talent gets the opportunity to share the field with international legends. In light of the evolving geopolitical situation and its impact on international travel, we felt it was important to ensure that Season 2 is delivered without compromising the experience for players and fans. The post-IPL window will allow us to bring together a stronger international line-up and create a bigger and better BCL Season 2.”
BCL confirmed that revised dates for Season 2 will be announced soon, along with an expanded roadmap for future editions as the league continues to develop its Pro-Am cricket platform connecting amateur players with international icons.
