The seventh fixture of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 between Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United was called off without a single ball being bowled due to heavy rain at the Gaddafi Stadium on Tuesday.

Both sides share points after the washout in Lahore. The abandoned game handed Islamabad United their first point of the season, while Peshawar Zalmi moved up to second place with three points from two matches.

Storm Disrupts Proceedings in Lahore

A severe thunderstorm struck Lahore ahead of the toss, bringing heavy rainfall and strong winds that lasted for nearly an hour. The downpour created large puddles across multiple areas of the ground.

Although the central square remained covered, the rest of the outfield was exposed, leading to significant waterlogging.

The rain eventually eased and stopped around the scheduled start time, but the damage to the playing surface had already been done, making the chances of play highly unlikely.

Late Efforts Fall Short

Ground staff worked extensively to dry the field, continuing their efforts until close to the cut-off time. At 9.20pm local time, the PCB issued an update indicating that a shortened five-over contest might still be possible, with covers removed and conditions improving.

However, despite those efforts, the match was ultimately abandoned shortly afterward, marking the first washout of the PSL 11 season.

What’s Next

Peshawar Zalmi are next scheduled to play on April 8 against tournament debutants Hyderabad Kingsmen in Karachi. Meanwhile, Islamabad United will face Quetta Gladiators on April 4 at the same venue.
