India’s New Heroes Shine on Debut

The first ODI between India and Afghanistan at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala turned into a thrilling contest despite being shortened by rain. The match was reduced to 25 overs per side, creating a fast-paced battle between bat and ball.

Afghanistan looked set for a huge score thanks to a stunning century from Rahmanullah Gurbaz. The wicketkeeper-batter smashed 102 runs from just 51 balls and put India under serious pressure.

However, the game soon became a story of two debutants. Gurnoor Brar and Harsh Dubey stepped onto the international stage for the first time and played a major role in India’s victory. Their brilliant bowling performance changed the course of the match and helped India dismantle Afghanistan.

Gurnoor Brar Delivers with Pace and Control

Gurnoor Brar made an instant impact with the ball. The tall Punjab fast bowler used his height and pace to trouble the Afghan batters from the very beginning.

Just five balls into his ODI career, Brar picked up his first wicket by dismissing Ibrahim Zadran. His movement and bounce made life difficult for the opposition even on a batting-friendly surface.

When Gurbaz was attacking every bowler, captain Shubman Gill turned to Brar again. The young pacer showed remarkable calmness and slowed Afghanistan’s scoring rate at a crucial stage of the innings.

Brar returned in the final over and removed dangerous batter Rashid Khan along with Zia ur Rahman. He finished with impressive figures of 3 wickets for 27 runs, making his debut a memorable one.

Harsh Dubey Shows Great Character

While Brar impressed with pace, Harsh Dubey won praise for his courage and determination.

The left-arm spinner had a difficult start. Gurbaz attacked him immediately, and Dubey conceded 16 runs in his first over. Many young bowlers would have lost confidence after such treatment.

Instead, Dubey stayed brave and continued to toss the ball up. His positive approach paid off as he broke the heart of Afghanistan’s middle order.

He dismissed captain Hashmatullah Shahidi, followed by Azmatullah Omarzai and veteran Mohammad Nabi. These wickets stopped Afghanistan from building on their strong start.

Dubey ended with 3 wickets for 47 runs, proving that resilience can be just as important as skill.

A Historic Achievement for Both Debutants

The performance of Brar and Dubey was not only match-winning but also historic. They became only the seventh pair of ODI debutants to take three or more wickets each in the same innings.

Their efforts helped bowl Afghanistan out for 194 in 24.5 overs. At one stage, Afghanistan looked capable of crossing 230, but the debutants ensured that never happened.

India Complete a Comfortable Chase

With the target under control, India approached the chase confidently. Despite an early setback involving Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill led from the front with an unbeaten 84 runs from 66 balls.

India reached the target with seven wickets in hand and 13 balls to spare.

While several stars contributed to the win, the spotlight belonged to Gurnoor Brar and Harsh Dubey. Their dream double debut gave India two exciting new bowling options and turned a difficult situation into a memorable victory.
