Former India captain Rohit Sharma once again demonstrated his sharp understanding of match conditions after a prediction he made before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup semi-final between India and England turned out to be accurate. The high-scoring contest took place at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.

Ahead of the match, Rohit observed the weather conditions and shared his view on how the wind could influence the game.

India Build a Massive Total

England won the toss and chose to bowl first, sending India in to bat. India began positively but suffered an early setback when Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for nine.

Following the early wicket, the innings was rebuilt with confidence. Sanju Samson played a central role in the batting effort, producing a superb knock of 89 runs that anchored India’s total. Ishan Kishan supported him with a valuable contribution of 39.

Shivam Dube later accelerated the scoring with an aggressive 43 from 25 deliveries during the middle overs. Hardik Pandya added a quick 27 toward the end of the innings as India finished on a formidable 253/7 from their 20 overs.

Rohit Sharma’s Observation Before the Match

In footage released by the ICC during the build-up to the semi-final, Rohit Sharma was seen discussing the conditions with India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel. While talking about the impact of the wind, Rohit shared a confident prediction.

“The wind is blowing, it’s going to swing a little bit up front. And not just now, but also when we bowl second. Yeah, 100%, because this wind is not going to stop, man.”

As the match progressed, the conditions unfolded much as Rohit had anticipated.

Early Breakthroughs for India

England’s chase began with immediate pressure from India’s bowlers. In the second over, Hardik Pandya dismissed Phil Salt for five. Soon after, Jasprit Bumrah removed Harry Brook for seven.

The early overs featured noticeable swing in the air, aligning with Rohit’s earlier assessment of the conditions. Hardik Pandya generated an average swing of 2.3 during the powerplay, while Arshdeep Singh produced around 2.1, with the wind clearly aiding the bowlers.

England Respond in the Middle Overs

Despite the early setbacks, England fought back in the middle phase of the innings. Jacob Bethell and Will Jacks built a strong partnership, with Jacks contributing 35 from 20 balls as the pair added important runs for the fifth wicket.

A key turning point arrived in the 14th over when Axar Patel completed an excellent catch near the boundary, shifting momentum back toward India.

The standout performance for England came from Bethell, who played a remarkable innings of 105 from just 48 balls and kept England in the contest deep into the chase.

However, England eventually finished on 246/7 from their 20 overs, falling just seven runs short of the target as India secured a dramatic victory.
