India Women Nominated for Laureus Team Award

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the India Women’s Cricket Team has been nominated for the prestigious Laureus World Team of the Year Award following their landmark victory at the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, where they secured their first-ever ODI World Cup title.

The Laureus World Sports Awards recognise the most outstanding and inspirational sporting achievements worldwide. Nominations are determined through votes cast by more than 1,000 sports media representatives across 70 countries.

India’s World Cup-winning campaign represents a significant breakthrough for women’s cricket in the country, and the team now finds itself shortlisted alongside some of the most accomplished outfits in international sport.

The other nominees include Paris Saint-Germain (football) from France, McLaren (Formula 1) from the UK, the European Ryder Cup Team (golf) from Europe, the England Women’s Football Team from the UK, and the Oklahoma City Thunder (basketball) from the USA.

BCCI Comments on Nomination

In an official press release, BCCI president Mr Mithun Manhas welcomed the honour, stating:

Our women’s team has demonstrated extraordinary skill, character and consistency, culminating in a historic ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup victory in 2025. Honorary secretary of BCCI, Devajit Saikia, also responded to the recognition, saying:

“The 2025 World Cup triumph was a watershed moment not only for the team but for the entire cricketing ecosystem in our country. This Laureus nomination reflects the global impact of their achievement. The team has inspired a new generation of young girls to take up cricket, and we remain committed to strengthening the foundations and support systems that will sustain this success for years to come.
